What kind of hit to fuel economy will I get by adding a RTT?

2018 DCSB is my daily driver and I'm satisfied with the gas mileage. If i add a RTT to some low height bed racks and leave it on there all the time, what kind of hit to fuel economy should I expect?

Probably not much if you keep it lower than or equal to cab height. The extra 120lbs is really not going to make a big difference, it's like having a kid in the bed of the truck. Just don't mount too high and you'll be fine.

I did KBVooDoos highrise bars with a smittybilt rtt, and while it certainly doesn’t look as cool as some other bedracks, it’s low height means i haven’t noticed a drop in mpg whatsoever

They are Front Runner bars mounted on extenders that I had fabricated.

I get about 14 mpg going 80 on the freeway, 16 around town. I was getting 20 without the rtt and smaller tires.

Curious, why leave the tent on the truck all the time?

why not get higher bars to utilize more of the bed when you need it, and just put the tent on when you need it? Am I taking crazy pills here?

I mean sometimes when I eat too much Mexican food I really want to take a nap before heading home but there has to be a better way right?

Try removing or putting on most tents by yourself and you'll see really quickly why a lot of people leave them on.

Because it's an absolute pain in the ass.
I do plan on getting a garage hoist, though.

    To the OP
I have not noticed any significant hit to MPGs. Mine is on the heavier side at 180lbs.

Anything you add will make you lose MPGs.

    Bunper chin removed... Loss MPGs
RTT even if your below roof line, I remember losing some MPGs
Prinsu roof rack... I loss 1-2MPG there.
Lifted the truck loss 3 MPGs

... Pretty much any exterior mod, I’ve loss MPGs

I didn't notice a hit w/ the RTT. I def. noticed a hit from my 180 awning though. If you are concerned on fuel economy you can get a low pro one like this. HOWEVER, they are way more expensive than a regular RTT and the added cost would likely never offset fuel savings. I guess your fucked either way.
