For me, it's because i live in the city and don't have a garage at the moment.
I'd prefer to take it off between trips, but that means driving to my brothers house and inconveniencing him.
I wish i could take it off in between tripos, but that just not a great option for me right now.

    And obligatory picture:

I averaged 18.3 on the two fill ups I did after mounting my tent like this. It was pretty much no change from my mileage prior to mounting the tent.
My mileage is suffering a bit now that I have a roof rack and sliders.

It’s a bit of a nightmare to remove on your own. Especially without a hoist. The added benefit of having it already attached so you can make those spontaneous trips without having to spend time remounting then tent is worth it for me. Maybe I lose 1 mpg out of it? It’s not a significant enough change to justify the time spent taking it on and off between trips.

Because they want to look super cool. Who cares that the tent only gets slept in 3 times a yr. Everybody on the street needs to think you use it all the time.

I haven't seen any change in my MPG with my RTT on... It is below the cab. I still average 18.2 - 18.7 on the hwy with or without the tent.

My RTT spends most of the time in my garage. I bought a small electric winch from Harbor Freight so it’s super easy to store.

I'd hope so with you having a hardform shell tent, that's the main selling point of one right?

I've been thinking about how I'll store mine, luckily I have a forklift and a warehouse to use :D that's a super convenient home method though, I might have to add one too.

0 mpg loss here. I’m still averaging around 19, and that’s with skinny 33s.

    This is the dick answer.

For the rest of us, some of us use it all of the time. It's also 130 lbs and I only have my to put it up there and remove it. The whole point of having it is so that it's ready to use.

I don't want to look super cool. I already am super cool. Nothing's cooler than a Satanic Pope doing a sax solo.

TBH, if that's all you can imagine is the motivation behind not man-handling an RTT on and off then you probably already think it does, in fact, look cool.

Averaging 17 mpg that I've noticed since I've put on my RTT.

I took a page from Overland Bound and packed almost all my gear in a few bins. Short of food, clothing and a few multipurpose misc items, I can toss them in the back of the truck and be on the road in short order.

I would say selling point is the ease of setting up (at least that's why I bought it). I have a couple buddies who have the same exact tent on cab height bed racks and they lose 2-3 mpg's when their tent is on. The biggest factor in mpg loss is how high it is above the cab making it less aerodynamic.

No change around town. Loose a couple on the highway. Having the tent on there was about the same as making the step up from 33s to 35s.
