Necessary tools

So I’m putting together a tool bag for the Taco. Beyond the obvious metric wrenches, sockets, torx, and allen wrenches are there any fastener types I’m going to need.

Naturally, a full complement of pliers, screwdrivers etc will be included. Any other suggestions?

 

A multibit screw driver can cut down on a handful of separate tools. Electrical tools are good to have, strippers and such. Utility knife. A pair of vice grips.

 

Second zip ties and duct tape. Also recommend clear tape and red tape (broken head and tail lights). Fuses are great to have. Breaker bar has more than one use.

 

Not to worried about bulk, and I've never cared for multibit drivers. They always feel a little sloppy. Vice grips are a given. Hadn't thought too much about electrical but good point.

 

I carry tool bags in all my vehicles. So I'm pretty well versed on what to carry. But my big concern is coming across a fastener of some sort for which I don't have the right tool. Sometimes you can rig something to work, but it never works as well are the right tool.

 

I'm in the market for a nice basic tool set as well. Anyone recommend any sets that could fit underneath the back seat compartment?

 

A 1/2 inch 21mm long breaker bar because the small bar that comes with the truck is way too small.

 

Large and small pair of vise grips are a life saver. Leatherman tool will cover a lot of necessities and only take up minimal room. Zip ties and black electrical tape will help out as well.

 

No one has mentioned it yet, so I will. Baling wire and fencing pliers, (or a good pair of wire cutters), if you go off-road frequently.

 

A 1lb spool of stainless lock wire wire is what I carry.

Another thing Ill add is some JB quick weld, and some double sided tape. As far as screwdrivers go, I carry one of those quick change ones that covers all the philips and flat head drives. But I also carry a large dedicated flat head that doubles at a good ol pry bar.. Since then Ive also added a dedicated 2 ft prybar as that can be wicked handy for pulling CVs.

Guess the only other thing is a 1/2 inch drive T55 for the bolts that hold the bed on. Not really sure when that would ever be needed, but its such a small thing to carry may as well

 

On the lock wire front, I borrowed one of these this week and now I own one. Custom hose clamps on the fly, and great for holding stuff together tighter than you can get by hand.

Make sure you have deep sockets in 17, 19, 21 mm size
