A few questions on the bilstein 6112

hmmm interesting. Best I keep it on what bilstein recommendation

 

If you have Taco Lean the only way to account for it (aside from adding weight to the passenger side or rewelding mounting points) is a small spacer or offsetting the clips. I think there are enough people on this site that have done one or the other with 6112s and 5100s without having their truck explode. I'm just saying that in the unlikely scenario that there is some issue with the shocks that had to be warrantied you might not want to volunteer the information about offsetting the clips/running a spacer. I had a few emails back and forth about how Bilstein suggested that I correct a known issue on a common truck and I got the same answer back.

 

Howndoes leveling work out once it offset or correct it by using a spacer?

 

If your truck has a lean when lifted (most do but not all) you either add a 1/4" spacer to the driver side or set that snap ring one setting higher than the passenger side.

 

You must not have read the post at all. I wasn't telling anyone to purchase from there. The link was simply showing what a 9100 is.

But it is a good PSA, I agree that they suck. I have only heard bad things about 4wheelpart.com

im going to end buying the headstrong 1/4 spacer for the driver side

 

So I just measured my truck height and looked at the clip setting on my truck oem strut. The drivers side oem strut is set to the second clip setting while the passenger is it to the first clip setting of the oem strut. Also I measured my struts the ones I just picked up (bilsteins 6112) and they’re set on the 4th clip setting making it a 1” inch to a 1 1/4” taller. Also 650# oem springs are 10 1/4” and my 6112 springs are 11 1/2” but remember my oem spring has a 1” toyotec bottom spacer and my 6112 springs are set at the 4th clip setting. My fenders are drivers side is taller by 1/4”. Just some info I found out by measuring stuff out today. I measured from bottom of strut to top of springs as picture indicates. Sucks I wanted to use my oem springs as they’re 650# vs 600# but they’re shorter

 

I don't think stock springs will fit around the 6112 shock body will they? 6112s are a much larger diameter than stock/5100/etc.

 

They’re actually the same diameter just the oem spring is shorter in height

I ended up buying used 6112 that had 3000 miles on them and still under warranty for $240. That’s a good deal for new ones though

 

Oh hell yeah!! I have gotten many of my parts used and have saved a but load of money that way! My Dakar EL05R leaf springs I picked up for $250 with only 10k miles on them. I'll be installing the 6112's, dakars, B110's and ext brake line this weekend assuming it all comes in by then!

Hi guys! gonna revive this thread here haha. so i’ve had the 6112s for quite some time now and they are great, just the coil is not very good. sags a lot over time, even added the 1/2 top plate spacers to maintain my lift and it still dropped. still not to my liking, trying to keep it at 3inches of lift. so i bought the dobinsons heavy duty coil. the coil itself said it’s about 2.75 inches of lift. on top of that i’ll be re using the 1/2 top plate spacers. anyone use dobinsons coil?
