Came up to my friends place in the birkshires for my birthday weekend.....and its rain at the lake.

 

Meeting my friend at 630 this morning who is finishing the siding on my daughters house . You would think the modular company would finish the siding Got 3 other estimates at $6000 for 2000 square feet . Friend doing it for $3600 . ( He is a contractor who builds million dollar homes , he really didn’t have to do this ) I would have paid him more just to get it done !

 

Better get out there early!! Looks like rain by lunch. That stinks tho, we've had such warm and sunny weather until now.

Back over to the new house . Have to keep everyone moving

Got the walls poured, supposed to be clear until tonight...storms came through two hours later!

They are peeling the forms as we speak, and I'm going to grab some blueboard to insulate the slab after the dentist. Should be done with the concrete this week. The building itself, not so sure when we will start. Hoping within two weeks.

 

That looks great! Going to be a nice house with a very nice yard....well as soon as they get that white truck outta there

But seriously, must be nice putting your daughter in there and knowing thats where she'll be.

Well they could have had some flooring. And appliances. Tiling 2.5 baths . I don’t think tile would hold up during transport . So we are doing all the flooring downstairs. Good quality wood laminate . Upstairs gets carpeted . Bathrooms tiled . Hired HVAC guy for heat and central air and plumbing. All electric has to be done by an electrician obviously. So my son in laws dad is doing all the interior finish like sheetrock and floors . . Few spots have no sheet rock , total of about 5 sheets maybe . Looks like more work than it really is but it’s enough . I’m going to do some foam insulation tomorrow and nailing straps on the inside of gables . Still quicker than stick build and 30% more lumber in these Modulars . Everything is glued and screwed ​

 

Thanks ! Lots of grading and fill yet outside . 1.47 acre lot . They took almost every tree down which I was against going to be lots of mowing when the lawn gets put in !

 

No leaves is a beautiful thing in the fall. However, its real hard to keep a lawn green with no shade and the extra area to mow...Oh well, experience (the hard way) is how I always had to learn! We are planting trees to cover some sunny spots as we speak

 

I suggested they let the front go wild and plant grass in the back . No matter what they are going to need some topsoil . There are some large trees on both sides on the neighbors properties so I’m sure they will get some leaves .

 

When I was a boy I never thought I'd care so much about different types of dirt...topsoil is like gold to me. I've spent time online looking at screeners so I could make my own, but I've managed to not buy one yet.

I have a standing invitation to a excavating crew for any dirt they get. If I'm closer to than their dump spot I get it and I don't charge! Been able to hook a few neighbors with some truck loads as well. I don't take the dirty stuff with concrete and shit in it, gotta be dirt, rocks are fine. I'm getting 100's of yards later this summer they said from a job near me and I am gonna fill a trench I've wanted filled for 5 years with it.

 

Nice I had a couple yards of someone’s old garden soil given to me this year . I made a screen from 2x4s and hardware cloth to fit over a wheel barrow. Other than a couple weird weeds sprouting in it the quality was ok . This lettuce is growing in it !

 

I drove a tractor trailer for a local soil company for 10 years . They made topsoil from compost, sand and humus dug from swamps . It was an interesting process.

 

That's pretty cool, seems like you've had some interesting gigs driving around the area. I always like doing different things and a few times I wondered about a local truck driver type gig. You ever do any long haul stuff ?

 

The furthest I have gone in a day was Maryland and Delaware ,back the same day . Only time I ever did an overnight was if the truck broke down Your allowed to drive 11 hours and a total day of 14 hours . One day a week 16 hours . Paper log book you could get away with it . Drove for Hannaford for a few years and they have computer logs . If your time runs out you pull over and they come get you or bring out another driver and you sit in the passenger seat .
