What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

For $11 I just bought a new one and replaced it.

 

Speaking of. Are the threads NPT on the breather? It was about 1/2-3/4 the way down before it started to get really tight.

I didn’t want to go all gorilla on it so I stopped. But I can still see some threads.

Normal?

 

It’s about 85% down. But honestly anymore I’d be putting way too much torque on it.

Nothing is getting into the diff.

 

So, the way I do it, is crank the wheel to full driver and reach up between the axle and the control arm. I just hand crank it tight, and check it after a day or two. Usually takes a little bit of force to take it off, but can still be done by hand. I’ve got long arms though.

 

i do it similarly, i crank the wheel, then I use the medley of socket set accessories to crack it loose. I can't get it loosened up by hand just because of the way i need to contort my arm to get in there. I might be able to do it if i really tried but the ratchet is so much easier that i just gave up after the last oil change. also my hands were oily enough as i was screwing in the new filter that i couldn't get it very tight (haven't been able to find any gloves cause of covid). i just used the ratchet to snug it up, and called it good.

Turned the corner on my Raptor Liner paint job. All panels have now been painted, and starting to reassemble. Still waiting for the fenders to cure, before reinstalling them, so I messed around with getting the badges back on. Not perfect, but they will do. As @JKO1998 commented, it probably looks best at 20 feet.

 

Bet it looks better than mine, but think of the hundreds of pounds of weight you added

I am going to dispel that myth, once everything is back together. I weighed it at the local transfer station (dump) before starting this project, even noting everything that was inside, and with a full tank of gas.

 

I put some washer fluid in my broken reservoir, hey its not a first gen if it aint broke
