Life long Honda guy looking to make the jump to a new Tacoma

I went from a ‘17 Civic EX-T that got 38mpg’s to my 2019 Tacoma OR and it is a great decision. Go for it. Quicksand is the best color as well.

 

I've had plenty of Hondas and currently drive my '03 RSX with 190K miles as my once-in-a-while commuter. Damn that car is well built and fun to drive (but harsh as hell). That said, boy do I look forward to climbing into my Tacoma on those non-RSX days! Totally different experience; you will love it. Do it.

I'm on my 3rd Tacoma, and also have a 2000 Tundra and a new 4Runner. They've been really good for me.
I do the recommended maintenance consistently, and have had very few and only minor issues over the years.

 

The Prelude and Integras I owned were a blast to drive (all stick shifts). Maybe that’ll be my mid-life crisis car, try to find one and restore it to relive my glory days

But definitely excited to get behind the wheel of a Tacoma. They have a great reputation and they look great too

 

Not sure where you will be living the next 20 years but the Taco will probably rot out long before 2040. Pretty much any vehicle can go 200,000 miles with (key point) regular maintenance. The Tacoma is basically a 10 or 15 year old design. That can be good or bad, depends on your expectations. Don't expect modern power/fuel economy. I bought a new 2008 ( I'm a four digit member here) and eleven years later bought a new 2019 and was shocked how little the truck had evolved.

It sounds like you value reliability above all else, and Toyota is known for that. The Taco also has great resale, so if you get a turd and want to off it you should have zero problem doing so.

It has a small cab compared to every other midsize and the worst leg room in the back if that is important to you. Relics of it's old design I guess.
If you are looking for confirmation bias you are in the right forum. Might want to hit up a few others and ask why they dumped their taco for a Ridgeline/Ranger/whatever for a more balanced view. Due diligence and all....Sounds like you want one so I say just go for it. You won't know until you try it.

I had hondas myself and they were all excellent vehicles. You can expect pretty much the same from a toyota tacoma, you will not be dissapointed, great trucks!

 

It has more payload though

 

Make sure you take an extended test drive of a couple different model Tacoma's to see what fits you, these are fantastic trucks.

Welcome, I am in the same boat as you. I have driven nothing but Accords for the last 13 years. I would buy one, drive it till its paid off and hand them down to my kids for their first cars. I actually got my first one back from my daughter and its my work car. its an 05 and has 251000 miles on it. Paint is flaking but still runs good. I figure drive it back and forth to work and save putting miles on my Tacoma.
Back in January I bought a new 19 Limited. I do no off-roading and I really love the clean look of the limiteds and the 18in rims... Love the truck, dont regret the purchase one bit. I think the ridgeline looks like a Pilot with a bed on it. JMO

 

Traded in my honda accord exl for trdor4x4 6 months ago, never been happier. Car was really nice though, held its value towards trade in

I did the same thing. Honda guy since I was 16 but always wanted a truck. Finally made the jump and love it.

 

I live in Greater Atlanta, so rust should be a non-issue. I used to live in MA, and the road salt they use used to eat away at my rear fenders

I definitely value reliability over everything else, so although some of the domestic small trucks may have more leg room, power, and bells and whistles, they don't phase me really. Plus to be honest, I actually prefer the look of the new Tacoma over the Colorado, Canyon, Ranger, etc.
