I just picked up the 2020 Scout and I heard on the VitalMTB review of it that the new version climbs mo better than the last version for what its worth. I am a big fan of it so far but it could just be my confirmation bias kicking in. I'm 5'9" and even I'm not a fan of 29ers because they feel a little large for my riding style.

That’s the thing, I love the playfulness of the 27.5 and worry I will lose some of that switching to 29. But I’ve also never tried a 29er. I rode bmx as a teenager and tend towards the smaller bikes anyway. I like how the Scout comes in XS, I’m in the middle of their size chart for XS-S, but I liked the feel of the XS when I demoed it. Good to know they climb a bit better. It’s crazy that the Spur is 3lbs lighter than the Scout. That’s what’s tempting...

Went for an aggressive ride around the block and I didn't die. First fork install is a success!

Nice. I've been thinking about moving one of my 1Ups down from the Prinsu and putting it on the Frontrunner bars on my Diamondback.

Can you PLEASE wash your damn bike?! For fuchs sake, that new fork deserves it!
Looks killer, but most importantly, it'll ride awesome.

BTW, you need one of these to complete the look
    (also super comfy)

My wife is 5'0" and I've worried about the industry dumping 27.5 because I wasn't sure how she'd get along with a 29er. We were planning to upgrade her in the next couple years. She's not an aggressive rider but does do some pretty tech trails with me. We'll be sure to demo some 29ers, and something like the Spur would be great for her.

I won't say the new one doesn't climb better than the old one, but my 2018 actually has some serious climbing chops. It's a billy goat on tech climbs. Even on long fire road climbs I rarely find myself flipping a compression switch. Going to the trail/middle compression setting does firm things up and reduces the effects of body movements to the shock and keeps you a bit higher in the sag.

All that said, the Scout is still not designed with climbing as a primary goal and the new Spur sounds like it is. I'd love to demo one. Keep us updated on how how you like the 29er at your size.

I've been out of the mountain bike game for about 10 years, but decided I want to start back up.

Ordered a Vitus Nucleus 27 VRS. Size large is the exact length of the long bed

I was gonna wash it, but between running to the bike shop to get the crown race swapped, then having to run to ace to get the pieces for a makeshift star nut setter, I ran outta time. It needs to be let outside for some proper pictures anyway.

How'd you cut the steerer tube? Curious about that star nut setter!

Pipe cutter. Does a real neat job.

Star nut setter was a M6 bolt run through an 18mm socket (just fit inside the steerer tube, check yours as a different 18mm I had didn't fit). Run the bolt from the inside out the square drive hole, use a few washers for spacing, then thread the star nut on the end. Mark the depth desired with tape, etc and hammer in place.

    Thank you sir.
Yeah I'd imagine lifting it up onto and off of the roof of the cab each time would get to be a pain after a bit. Plus I like the idea that it's a little more protected from the road behind the cab, even though it's only really about a foot or two of height difference

Side note- One thing I noticed setting all this up is that the all black everything looks pretty sweet, but it's HOT out in the desert sun :bananadead:
