I had mine mounted on just some 3" flat stock on the front of the bed. With a bend at the bottom so it wouldnt flap around. Drilled a hole and got a t-nut for the bed rail slot and mounted the flat bar to that. Then just drilled two holes matching the holes in the treds (i have treds not maxtrax but same thing). Long bolt with a PVC spacer and fender washer with wingnut kept it tight.

That’s what i had planned until i remembered my Co2 tank is in the way. Unfortunately i cant relocate it to the sides because it’ll interfere with my tent rack. I’m going to have to come up with a temporary solution until i can flatbed it

Does your CO2 tank take up that much room? Then again Im not sure how long the maxtrax are but I know with my treds I could still fit two jerry cans against the front if i shifted the treds all the way to one side

It’s a 20lb tank, so it’s not small. Im going off of memory right now but i dont think i can slide it over anymore.

I will say, if you have an auto 3rd gen, for some reason in 4low it didnt want to downshift even when I had it floored going up that hill climb. I had to manually downshift to 1 in S mode. This was from a few years back.

Well that's a bummer....it's a fun climb barring potential shifting issues

It wasn't bad, just weird it didn't kick down. But maybe that's like a safety feature not to overrev or something in 4low. Did just fine after putting it in 1st gear. I'd definitely like to do that again.

Nope. :notsure: I haven't had any of the issues that people complain about here for 3rd gens, aside from my diff weeping, but that was fixed under warranty and hasn't happened since.

Anyone know of a place to look at / buy a Stihl chainsaw in the Seattle to Tacoma area? Looking for a Wood or Farm Boss. Would need to pick it up by tomorrow evening.

McClendons has an excellent selection of STIHL saws and the people there are great. not sure where you are located exactly but they have locations in Renton, Woodinville, Kent, Tacoma, White Center, and i think there are some more stores scattered around. you could also check craigslist or FB marketplace good way to get solid deals and some sellers can meet same day. if you're set on a new saw McClendon's is the way to go IMHO.

Awesome. I’ll check out the Renton location.

Tried CL, but those same saws, used, are being sold for ‘new’ prices.

i feel you. I bought my 044 used of CL and it wasn't cheap. i probably paid a bit too much for it and the bar and chain oiler stopped working just recently. haven't gotten around to flushing the system yet but hoping it's going to be as simple as that. still starts after 3 pulls though... not bad for an almost 30 year old saw. with small engines it really pays to shell the money out from the get go. not sure what your budget is, but if you can swing the price i'd really recommend going with a pro-grade saw. they last a lifetime.

I’ve read that same comment on a few discussion boards. Get a pro. Thing is I might use it maybe a few times a year, and only for firewood or clearing a FR. On a limited budget as well.

yeah, i can certainly understand the price constraints... especially if you're going with a new saw. it really depends on what size saw you're going with. if you're getting a smaller saw, then a MS260 (or the new equivalent) might be something to look at. it is quite a bit more expensive but imo it's worth it. and it's not too out of the question for a quality power tool. not like an 880 or 660. i'm biased though, i'm spoiled with my 044:D. I decided to pick it up after endless problems with my smaller homeowner saw. now i'll never go back to a non pro model. then again though... it wasn't a STIHL, it was a pretty cheap McCulloch. whatever you end up with i hope it works out for you. STIHL makes excellent saws and, provided you don't go for the cheapest option, it should serve you well.
