Here is my situation. Im 16 years old I currently have a 2000 taco prerunner. Its 2wd. I hate it. I would do anything for a new 4wd taco. Or even a 2003 4wd taco. I have seen plenty of used ones for sell but im 16, I have a job but I couldn't even afford a go kart with what I make. My parents are supportive but would never spoil me... they tell me to save my money. I will be out of college by the time I have enough to afford one. Alot of my friends have nice trucks that are built for the offroad but their spoiled and there parents bought them. Im the only one that goes offroad. Period. An Im the one with the 2wd. & the only one that works for whatever I want.(Isn't that how it usually goes)..What should I do?

    Why do you hate it?

If you want 4x4, but can't afford a new truck, convert to 4x4. You're a first gen so its doable, plenty of guys on TTORA have done it. How good are you mechanically?

Ive been where youve been before and I kinda still there im 20 a full time student and I work about 30 hours a week. Ive had a job ever since I was 16 and no my parents didnt just throw me out on the streets but they have not givein me everything on a silver platter ether. But they only thing I can say is that I have come to realize that if I can stick it out and keep saving money and pay for school that once I get out ill be able to buy those trucks and boats and all that cause there not going to go anywhere.

But I know its tough when you work your ass off and you dont really have anything to show for it yet but one of these days it will pay off just hang in there and get through school and then you will be able to get that truck

Are you a 5 lug or Prerunner? For the Prerunners you need a 4x4 transfercase, transmission, front drive shaft, ect.

People on TTORA have done it for $2K.

hey man.....be grateful for what you got...especially if you work for it. keep on saving your money. buy you a decent 4 wheeler for offroading now, save your coin, then later on....after college.....buy the truck you want!!! i aint tryin to sound preachy and shit.....but sometimes you gotta take what ya have and make it work till you can get what you want. im sure you can find a 4 wheeler for pretty cheap until you can get a truck!!

coming from someone who has wanted a 4wd his whole life...

as bad as you want it...it may just have to wait...i drove a piece of crap volvo sedan for 5 or 6 years thru college and until i got a good job where i could afford my truck

sure...it sucks having to wait...but at least youve got 4 wheels and a motor to get you around right?

do you only hate the truck because its 2wd?

if so i'd tell you to read up on the conversions etc and start saving your money (tho there are more important things out there than this  you'll understand when you get to college i promise) and as you can find deals collect parts...

or just pack away money and live like you dont have an income as much as possible...when you get out of school and get a full time job...purchase what you want and can afford

i know that sounds harsh etc...to a 16 year old...but i've been there...i understand your pain...but at least you have a truck...i didnt even have that

Your parents are doing the right thing by NOT spoiling you.

You need to make the right decisions from here.

Suck it up and learn to love that 2wd Tacoma!!!

You're damn lucky to have a truck and a toyota whose reliability should take you into college and beyond. Take care of it....and save your money for later. Life does get better if you learn to work hard and EARN the pride in the goodies that you spend your hard earned money on.

I was 3 years out of college before I could afford a small car payment - I was 25 years old!!!
I was 18 when I had my first car - piece of crap that ran on 3 cylinders.

Im on the same page as everyone else.....

Your 16, in high school. There are way more important things than what you drive....just dont worry about it. If you really want it, you WILL get it in the end. And when you do, you'll love it that much more. Trust me I have been there, and really not all that long ago.

Hahaha nice, what kind of car?

And yea, to the thread starter: im in college right now and i know a couple years ago when i was livin at home it seemed like all my self control went into not buying stuff.. trust me just stick with your priorities of gettin' good grades and laying out a good life for yourself, then you'll have plenty of time and money down the road to mess around with on hobbies like this:thumbsup:

don't focus on your obsession with your truck.. you'll end up flipping burgers for life AND without a truck haha

Better than my first car.... a '94 90hp dodge shadow sedan. But hey, I still loved that car... You could just invest in a winch, and there's a lot you can still do with a 2wd... Before you know it you'll be bogged down by a job and mortgage/rent/bills... Hard as it is to say, enjoy what you got while you have it.

i agree with everyone else. just chill, make money and save up for it. whether its converting your prerunner to 4x4 or buying a 4x4, you'll just have to be patient. im in college right now and after having my truck for a year and a half i gotta say i love having it but there are always the payments i have to keep worrying about each month. I have to, and always have had to, work for everything i get. my parents are pretty cool and help with a little here and there but my stuff wasnt given to me. I saved money and worked since i was like 13 and in the end i ended up with some nice stuff that i can say i got by myself. having something cheaper and yours is better than having something you want but cant really afford and end up losing back to the bank.
