Put a deposit down on a truck 3 weeks ago called the dealership today for a update turns out they cannot find the truck they were trying to get in. Aggravating and disappointing to say the least they claim to have found another if they give me waiting period of a month or 2 I'm pulling my deposit out and starting over. Any of you guys ever run into this issue before?

New guy here -- Long-time Toyota pick-up and 4Runner owner; 1st Tacoma. I just paid $34,200 (B4 tax, etc) for a 2020 SR5 (Don't care for the TRDs) 4x4 DCSB w/black package, floor mats/door sills, and mud flaps. I live way up north and didn't have the time/inclination to travel to the city for another $1k off.

I had one dealership I contacted near DC via CarGurus asking me to come down and give them a deposit after the truck they listed in the site was not even available. It was actually not even built yet. I'm not sure about that. I'm not willing to make the drive from PA when they aren't willing to talk price via E-Mail.

Given the current environment, patience is key if you don't absolutely need a truck now. Supply & Demand will continue to shift, until it does, its a sellers market plain and simple.

I got an estimate from a dealer for an SR5 dcsb 4x4 for $32,757 including destination charges and the $1500 cash rebate. I'm not sure what extra options or accessories are built in to the truck. No mention about dealership fees. I can estimate taxes and registration fees. Not sure if that's a good enough deal to jump on or wait. I haven't been able to get any competitive offers to judge it against.

Check out the Costco price. That’s the only way I was able to get anyone to deal recently.

I'm not a Costco member and there isn't one here. We have Sam's and BJ's clubs.
I think its not a bad offer for now considering the market conditions. I think I could do better. If there were more inventory and dealers to compete.

It is worth getting a costco membership for I am picking up a TRD Offroad 4x4 tommorow for $34,726+ ttl. You can get a costco membership for $60 online and refund it once you get the truck.

Check out the Costco car buying website. No need to log in. You can configure a truck and get a “suggested price.” It’ll want your details before it’ll give you a dealer name, but I could tell by the city listed what dealer it was and went directly to them and asked if they’d match it, or if I needed to go thru the Costco site. They said they’d match it, and that gave me a number to press other dealers with as well.

I looked at the Costco site just now. It let me build it like the dealer quote but only shows the MSRP and dealer invoice price of 33,720 with out rebate.
I need a membership to see the actual price.

If your not real picky on color and features I would just wait for round October and get the best deal then. As far as you just getting SR5 and not TRD 4X4 I paid less than your SR5 and got the TRD 4x4 with technology package, black out package, bed lights. SR5 is good but TRD has more features

I search this dealership based on your profile location, might be worth calling and see if you can get the cosco price.

It is still worth calling, I got the price on my truck before it was built at the factory.

That's probably a good deal if that includes taxes and fees too for the base SR

The only Costco dealer around by me tacked on an extra $1100 “Southeast Toyota” fee in addition to all the regular fees which basically negated most of the savings. Their response when I questioned it was “ Do you think we made it up?“

See that is why I don't think so highly of them car buying services right there. That and I am eligible to use The NEA education unions car buying services powered by true car. To be frank I could find offers when I was still saving up my down payment before Covid-19 on cargrus that were as good as or sometimes better than the prices the service had listed. That and they wanted to push you to the closest dealership. I already know the one in my town isn't easy to deal with and been told the service department is into ripping customer's off by selling things they don't need.
I think the best way is to work 2-3 competitive offers.

Wow. If they don't want to match the price, they can just say so there's no reason to make up additional fees to justify a "good deal"

i tried the whole Costco/Truecar thing when i bought my last car. in my experience with the dealers in my area, approaching them by way of Costco has little or no influence on the price of the car. since i had already contacted half a dozen or so dealers around here, i knew what prices they were offering beforehand and it didn't change after registering with Costco. as far as i can tell, it's merely a sales lead-generating service that a dealer can opt into.
