It doesnt make any sense, i mean there has to be some reasoning. Obviously my first vehicle with such fuckery. At least my throttle response in 1st is instant, so i guess they got something right, ha.

I really think the transfer from port to direct and mixed port and direct injection could of been done better by toyota.
In addition the knock sensor may be seeing preignition. Really alot of variables there.

Vacuum leaks won't come and go as far as I have ever seen.

Leaking air around a cold air intake will dust a engine pretty quickly.

Might keep people from doing stuff like clutch dumps and such. You will often find that most cars (ATs) these days will not rev high in neutral.

Yes, i agree. But when im in first clutch in, the throttle response is instant, which is perfect for a clutch dump.:notsure:

I noticed that too with the throttle being a little numb in neutral, I went to bump the revs up a little when I was downshifting thru some turns and it was slow to reapond.

Yes it is, but as soon as the shifter is in gear, clutch in, the throttle response is way better. Go figure. Those damn engineers...

I think these trucks have several fuel and spark maps to pick from, some days my truck will scoot up a hill in 6th gear and other days in needs 5th or even 4th to climb the same exact hill while being driven the same way.

It’s 100% the factory tune. It surges at 2500 and 3500 rpm. OV tune fixes it. Smooth linear power

Interesting. Never noticed that on mine, been driving same roads winter and summer.

They sure had something in mind, i am just not sure what it was yet. Ha!

Would love to speak to a toyota engineer and hear their reasoning.

Mine surges at exactly 3500 rpm, is that what you guys are talking about? Almost like vtec, but more pronounced.

My buddys 19 AT does the same.

Yep. There’s a small one at 2500 and a more noticeable one at 3500 on the stock tune

Hm, i can only feel the 3500 rpm surge. Other than that its linear up to that point.

A lot depends on your driving style. It also may be different on the 18+ trucks. It’s definitely present on the 16-17 trucks, especially pre TSB

Reminds me of the old school YZ 125 “power band”. I like it.

It doesnt matter if i floor it or accelerate smoothly, i can only feel the 3500 surge. It must be different on the 18s+. It didnt do it on the old ecu calibration as well.
