Bilstein 6112

I’m pretty sure it’s 600lb coil. I should have gotten heavier as I’ll eventually get a bumper and winch but figured it’d be a while and would be way too rough w/o the added weight. W/o any weight up front it rides great. if you get the kit w the leaf springs then follow the recommendation for the high setting for the fronts. I got the expedition leaf pack and keep 250ish lbs and it’s higher than I wanted but looks good. Avoid the allpro UCA’s in the kit, even on sale. The JBA’s are less expensive.
Wheelers lead time will be quite awhile, they just had a 20% off sale. Another member was saying his May order won’t be shipped until July. My May 5th It took @ 5wks, but w 20% off, no tax/shipping I could wait.

Yes my bad it comes with 600 lb but bilstein also offers 650 lb if I'm not mistaken and I'd like to get a slimline bumper so was planning on getting the 650 coils. I don't plan on having much in the bed just a rtt in the future so I'd probably be fine with the regular all pro leafs right? With a set of spc uca's

 

In all honesty, it is better to replace the seal since it is VERY easy to damage it while taking it out and you don't want to cause any front diff leaks, and have to tear it all apart again.

 

Yup I ordered one too. Also have 51K miles on my truck. Figured might as well and it's cheap.

Can the 6112's work with stock coils? I won't have much extra weight and only want 1" - 1.5" of lift. Seems the 3/4 setting may give me that? I'm struggling to find these for sale without coils though.

 

The 6112s are a 2.5 inch diameter shock, stock coils wont fit around them. You may want to look into 5100s.

 

Almost a year and 20k miles later since I've installed my 6112s. I have zero complaints and they have performed to my liking from daily driving to wheeling in Moab.

 

6112 is a set that comes with coils. 4/5 setting gives exactly 1.5” after they settle. The results they give are accurate for the 3rd gen 6112s

 

That explains it, thank you. Ive had 5100's on a number of vehicles. Looking for something better. Guess new coils it is.

 

Other than rock auto, anyone know where there's a good sale? Looks like 6112/5112 with leaf pack and uca's costs close to what a fox or icon coilover kit costs so I'm just trying to see if I'm missing any deals. Thanks guys

Does anyone know if the lower bushings and top bushing are "oil-resistant" rubber? I've googled for a while and even found the replacement lower bushing but nothing comes up saying it is or isn't oil resistant. The reason is, I want to protect them from corrosion since I live in Iowa. I use Fluid Film on most of my stuff. But since Fluid Film is petroleum based I don't know if it will deteriorate the rubber on the strut bushings.

 

Took my truck out today and ran it through some power company service roads in the desert. Nothing crazy but I’ve kind of used the area for testing with all of my trucks. 255/85R16 Toyo MT on stock wheels with 6112/5160 combo, stock leafs and UCAs at stock rideheight. I have never rubbed with these tires and still don’t. Fully unloaded. The 6112s are really amazing. Way smoother on washboard roads. They kept good tire contact in some whoops at lower speed. Went a little faster and things got a little bouncy but they do great for the price. Haven’t hit the front bump stops yet. The 5160s seem like they are valved for more rear spring. The rear hit the bump stops a few times on me but still better than stock. I wish Bilstein made a 6000 series rear shock that complimented the 6112s better. 8100 series rears are just too pricey for me. I’ll keep running the 5160s for now and see how they perform when I get a different rear leaf pack but I can’t say I recommend them with the stock pack. Anyone else have less than great experiences with the 5160s?

 

I agree. 5160s don’t pair well with the 6112s at all. The main reason why I ditched them immediately. I got 8100s and solved the issues immediately.

 

Yeah just too pricey. I can do custom valved Fox shocks from Accutune for less but I guess you get what you pay for.

what rear pack do you run and do you have pictures of your rear setup?

What is it that makes the 6112 not pair well 5160's? I am going with B110's which I am assuming is even less of a downgrade in damping capabilities compared to the 5160.

 

b110s is good for the slow rock crawling if that’s what your looking for. It depends on how you want to use your truck. 5160s for me doesn’t dampen well with a full loaded bed, and when driving fast wasn’t doing it for me.

That makes perfect sense. Being that I live in the midwest (western Iowa) I have to drive hours to go anywhere worth going off road for more than 15min. Most of my off road is slower like the Black Hills SD, plan on going to Colorado at some point and I have heard there are some good places in Minnesota as well.

But one thing I am concerned about is everyday ride quality, within reason of course. I am going to be using Dakar EL095R leaf springs with the B110's and supporting mods. I have also read that the stock leaf springs are just plain old garbage and people that have gone from and AAL to a new leaf spring that their ride also improved with all other variables the same. I just installed the 6112's at 4/3 (may have to go up from there depending on rake) for now until the parts arrive to install the rear suspension. Not putting many miles on as I have a 2nd car.

Something odd I have noticed after installing the 6112's is that it appears my LR has a lean to it. Almost like the left leaf spring is weak, I haven't measured either though. I always thought there I had a bit of a "tacoma lean" but didn't address it as I knew I was swapping it out.
