    Sorry for your loss.
When my daughter got her Blue Heeler he was, of course, very hyper. We decided to teach him how to fetch. WE started indoors so we would not have to got too far to get the ball back. When he graduated to outside, about 15 mins. later, he was doing everything but bringing the ball directly to us. We would repeat the same phrase in the same tone every time, " ok, no more fetch" and walk away. It started to work consistently in a short time. He still likes to be a pain and not return the ball, but as soon as we walk away, there is the ball at our feet. They are a damn smart breed. He is also a fetch-aholic.

Great looking dog! Have fun

Been around the breed 30 years now and if he is sleeping 20 hours a day consider yourself lucky LOL. The Toller in my avatar sitting an empty 12 lb. keg of Red Dot gunpowder has long since passed over the rainbow bridge. Obedience, socialization, and more obedience. Can't say it enough.

Current guy is 5.5 years old. Couple of years ago took in a Toller rehome from Texas and he had no socialization or obedience. And was the dog from hell I spent 6 months with him but he was dog aggressive and couldn't break him of it. He kept going after my guy at random times and finally had enough. After he went after a friends French Britt while hunting and tried to kill him I sent him back to Texas.

4 weeks ago took in my current guys sister in on another rehome. Raised by a young couple with young kids and she had no impulse control. Lack of obedience. Things are turning around fast and I have fallen in love with her. Think Nova has also.

Those toys sat untouched in a bucket for at least 4 years until she showed up. Now they play together for hours at a time. He is the best hunter I have ever owned of any breed.

Genetic tests including OFA came back yesterday as Good. His breeder wants to breed him with a bitch she has that just came into heat so she is driving from North Dakota for a breeding with him in the next week.

He looks a lot like my GSD I grew up with. Only difference was color. Where yours is tan mine was silver and her only mean bone was when someone other than one of the neighborhood kids got too close to her boy.

Are your tollers purebred? I think we're the only members here with tollers. I took mine to the vet today for a check up and the vet had no idea this breed even existed

Yep, always have been. I only have a few hobbies left which are more a way of life to me.

When the Toller was recognized by the AKC in 2003 a lot of us worried that they would go the way of the Irish Setter and English Setter. But at this point am starting to believe that the AKC learned their lesson. Of course still go to the National Specialty when they are near enough to me.

This is the president of the NSDTR-USA showing my current guy as a pup for me, I know Dan well. I'd highly recommend joining if you are not already a member.

Nova was the only one to pass the BRT Test that year, I should have likely entered him as a Jr. even though he wasn't even 1 yet.

Great technical ponds at that location and he turned himself inside out Tolling the bumper. Still does.

But I mainly focus on upland birds. I know a lot of the breeders around the Country from the years I have spent with Tollers. Back in the day there was basically the Toller-L listserv but now most people are on facebook. Me not so much. But will be after Nova gets bred to followup.

Took the puppy for a 2 mile walk this morning at 7am... it’s almost 12pm and he is still passed out.
