    My honest opinion is the primers aren't fully to blame for the malfunctions I was having yesterday. Yes, they were certainly the main catalyst and had I been shooting with regular WSRs none of it would have probably happened, but there is a flaw with the firing pin I was hoping not to have to address for a while. The malfunctions can be traced back to right before I had the rifle rechambered and I was shooting over-pressure loads in the 6.5 BR, blowing primers out and making the bolt hard to open, etc... It was only a few rounds, but it was enough that I noticed my trigger started behaving oddly, instead of the nice, light 2oz breathe-on-it-and-it-goes-off pull, I had to put some pressure on it. The situation has only become exacerbated by the WMGSR primers blowing out, and I'm pretty sure I know why.

    When I got my R700 bolt service kit and took my bolt apart for the first time to clean and lube it, I noticed my firing pin shaft where the spring rides is slightly bent. You can't see it with the spring on and it's almost imperceptible with the spring off, but considering the pin has to go into a conical bore in the business end of the bolt to center the strike, and add a liberal amount of carbon and debris from the blown out primers in that conical bore and you start getting soft strikes. I also believe the bend is getting worse because the bolt is hard to open on an empty chamber without being cocked. If it's cocked, it opens smooth as butter. It's either that or the retainer pin the holds the firing pin to the hammer has walked out and is rubbing on the hammer shroud, but I was able to move it easily enough by bracing it on the table edge when I had to remove the firing pin at the range, so I doubt that's the case.

    What I don't understand is how this is effecting the trigger. However, I've ordered a new firing pin assembly, and I'll see what sort of difference it makes.

    Yeah, my bad. I assumed you were using an autoloader.....primers blowing out of a bolt gun is NG. Make sure you don't have too much headspace.

    I fired 20 rounds of factory ammo out of it with no issues other than I discovered the gunsmith used a short throated reamer on it and the factory 120grs were seating so hard into the lands it pulled the bullet when I tried to eject a live round. I've taken that into account with my hand loads. They were seated .020 off the lands and even the hottest charge wasn't compressed enough I couldn't hear power rattling around when I shook them by my ear. I'm using high quality Starline brass.

    I'm pretty sure the firing pin was damaged with the over-pressured 6.5 BR loads I fired out of it right before I had it rechambered. The match grade primers are probably designed with a close tolerance bushed firing pin in mind instead of a sloppy (and slightly bent) factory Remington firing pin. I'm going back to regular WSRs that have always worked flawlessly for me and I'm replacing the firing pin. I don't expect to have any more problems out of it there. Now, how those match grade primers are going to act in the AR is another matter entirely.

    The joys of shooting free recoil...While surprisingly, the recoil was a non-issue for my shoulder, my left hand has one of those invisible bruises on the top of it from where the rifle recoiled back riding the bags and the bottom of the hand grip on the stock kept slamming into it. I tried a couple of things to move the rear bag back as much as I could but I couldn't manage to keep my hand out of the path. Guess I'm going to do the Michael Jackson thing and wear my left Machanix Impact glove. I don't remember that being an issue in the past, but then I was shooting a lot less powerful cartridges.

    The three hottest groups averaged over 3000 fps with the 140s, considering I only went .1gr over the hottest book load (just to make it an even number) and the book data said it should produce 2800 fps, and the fastest round was in excess of 250 fps of that, that extra 4 inches of barrel I have over their test barrel is kicking ass (unfortunately, they were also the three worst groups for the 140s). It's funny how the heavier bullets are producing more of a gap between book data and my results. The 130grs were only 150 fps over book data and they had a larger powder charge.

    All this time I was secretly jealous of @xweslingx and his hacked up function over...pretty much everything without even a nod to aesthetics so I hacked the hell out of my grille.

    pretty cool man. I actually shoot a youth bow have for about 7 years.
