What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Way less drama with a 911, though they do eat through a set of $800 rear tires in 8,000 to 10,000 miles


It’s now 12 years old and in the two years and 6,000 miles I’ve owned and driven it I’ve spent maybe $400 in R&M, not including the set of rear tires. I average 20 MPG premium of course and insurance is $900 per year, a bit less than my wife’s Jeep. Not that I’d ever sell it but it’s probably not going to go down in value.

 

There is a lot more interest in that type bumper than may be realized. If I ever get a new steel front bumper I will look for one with a hitch on it for front winch use.

Think of it as a learning curve. I've learned some of my best lessons the hard way and by making mistakes. Experience both good and bad is a great teacher!

Wish folks would speak up. At one time it was suggested to @RallySOP that if we could get enough people interested and commit that they would consider making a production run.

Just makes sense to me to have one winch that you could use both front and rear and be able to remove when you had no intention of having to use it. Here in the land of salt it makes perfect sense!

If anyone is interested in a bumper like this speak up. Demand equals supply.

Both Tom (Rally) and I are ready to drop a card on it if they ( @SouthernStyleOffRoad )decide to offer them for sale again.

You can send the $100 to my PayPal or a Money Order. Ordered it in April '96 while I was stationed in Germany, and it was delivered in November '96. No leaks, no issues other than a fuel pump swap recall in '97. Still running strong - taking it in for the annual safety inspection and oil change next week.

2. life expectancy would be less than a week ...... "I wanna go fast momma!!" I had a Britt 2 1/2 working for me about 1998, and he imported a European version of the zed 3 (right hand drive). We would take long lunches and drive like idiots on a newly opened stretch of interstate that was mostly empty......

I adjusted my comments to clear up that I'm not selling it - just waiting for the $100 the OP said he'd give to anyone who could show him a BMW that didn't leak oil. No way I'm parting with this baby.

Had someone tell me the same thing about BSA's, mine has never leaked a drop.
Like you I wish I could find a good mechanic only someone schooled in British bikes. Scarcer than hens teeth around here.

 

I agree they are a blast to drive. But hate the fact there isnt an oil dip stick and the cost to maintain is pricey.

 

In the same boat as you, but with less $$ on the line.
