What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I want to take mine out. Any tips on that . It’s broken

 

Much more progress today, at least to the untrained eye. Driver fender and bed reinstalled, along with the running boards. Hold up on passenger fender while I await a bracket that had to be replaced. (wasn't obvious as I was disassembling) All in all, I am quite pleased with how the Raptor turned out. Time will tell if it was the best decision. (hood isn't closed, so ignore the gap!)

 

Also newsworthy, reinstalled the rope hooks. I'm living on the edge, didn't even knock the rust off, let along paint, powder coat, or plate them.

Is there a crush washer of some sort for the transmission drain bolt? In the search of trying to fix a leak, I realized I have a leak coming from the drain bolt.

 

If it’s a manual transmission the drain plug washer part number is

$7 90430-18008 , Used for Change Transmission Fluid

90430-18008. Same part number for the fill plug washer.

Edit: that’s the part number for my ‘03 manual transmission, an R150F. Not sure if that’s the same in your ‘99.

Are those OEM red hub dials or did you paint them yourself? I prepped and painted mine a while ago and could not get the paint to stick. I even used special aluminum primer. Every time I touched them the paint would flake off. I finally just media blasted them back to bare metal.

 

I’m pretty sure I don’t have one, likely why it’s leaking.

Whenever I've painted them, I always had them blasted first.

Forget the exact paint but I use a fast drying enamel spray; even though it's ready for another coat within 15 minutes, I wait an entire day

 

Yes the 01-02 and 98-00 fit the 13 wl calipers
but the 16 inch wheels that look like the older tacoma 15s need a spacer

 

I sand blasted mine as well and cleaned them thoroughly with acetone, then dried them out with compressed air before I painted them. I got maybe a couple months before they started flaking. I'm curious what brand of primer and paint you're using, because they look awesome.

 

Could be the fact that I didn't use primer?

Normally I do for most things, but I went with the recommended method (and paint) that I found on other threads (various forums).

 

Could be. I used self-etching aluminum primer I got from a body shop supply store. I wonder if that made the finish too smooth. Because unfinished the hub dials are kind of rough and porous.
