I have recently gotten into smoking meat. I was also tired of using my gas grill so I gave it to my fitter. Wanted to go to charcoal and never look back! So I bought a Weber kettle. I wanted something versatile that I could grill regular Stuff on, or smoke. Soo instead of buying a $100 slow n sear to use for smoking I fab’d one up yesterday. With a removable stainless water trough. I also built a Bracket i bolted to the handle to hold my thermometer.

I have a whole new respect for working with round tube. Notching this stuff is HARD. It took me so many tries to get just those two side tubes correct. That’s number 5 and 6 on the truck and each one cost me $12.50 in material, so I had to toss $50 worth. I still had a lot of gap to fill with weld.

Lol great story man. I really wish I knew how to do borosilicate glass work, there are so many more possibilities with it. The glass I work with is very hard to heat (we use hydrogen and oxygen) and becomes firm as soon as you stop heating it, both of which make it very hard to work with. I respect traditional glassblowing a lot and I hope I can dip my feet in some day.

As many as I can fabricate
You've got some really complex cope's there too, so you did a great job. If you can, always make the joints less complex by maybe adding some more, or less bend...lol. It's hard, really hard some days. Looks good man.

When welding tube it makes it easy to do it in 4 sections... weld a 1/4 at a time and reposition you self each time. It will make life a lot easier and come out much cleaner

Dude it’s super light. I’m going to weigh it once it’s done, but it’s about 35-40 lbs. I still need to add brackets for the fair lead and some more bracing to tie into the frame in more places for hard winching strength. I took it off my truck a tacked together, with a winch in it, and I was chuckling at how light it is. Easily less than 100 lbs.

Edit: I had 700 and swapped to 650 lb coils recently. Going to drop down to 600 here soon since it’s just so light up there now. My old bumper before winch was 115.

Lol seriously! Especially because I live in a cul de sac where the median age is probably 50-55 years old. Everyone is retired.

I don’t have direct neighbors but there is a guy that lives behind me. I was rebuilding my boat trailer last summer trying to rush before I went on a fishing trip. I worked till 4am and he told me a few weeks later that i kept him up literally all night. I was grinding and welding in the back yard with my Miller bobcat/generator running all night long. So I’m sure your neighbors are just as delighted.

I try and be respectful and not start doing anything loud before 10am and after 9pm. I’m surprised your neighbor didn’t come over and tell you to shut up lol

Thanks brother, I’m loving it so far. This paired with the sucked up skid plate will make a huge difference off-road. I’ll be sure to tag you when I weigh it. The plan is to finish it in the morning and paint it in the afternoon
