Just remember. Most TSB/Recall issues on Tacomas impact WAY more trucks than they initially suggest. They almost all end up being pushed out to sequential years because Toyota never fixes anything.

    Frames anyone?
    Leaf springs?

Even the rear diffs on 3rd Gens have been extended to more years. Transmissions. etc.

I disagree. They don't fix these problems because it cheaper to fix them on a case by case basis than to fix it at production. And that's because not as many of them have these problems as you believe.

    Its all about money.

3rd gens are going to be so badass once they fully work the kinks out. In the meantime, I'm happy enough with my 2015.

@Chuck X1, I hope this doesn't sour your experience with Toyota. Their service folks have regularly gone above-and-beyond for me, even with a truck I bought used (certified, technically). This situation is bullshit and absolutely maddening, but bailing on them entirely isn't the best course of action imo.

Your dealer is pathetic, the mechanic a hack.

So, what exactly were you disagreeing with? LOL

Because it sounds like you just agreed with what I was saying.

Toyota doesn't give a rat's ass. Like you said. It's cheaper to handle issues one at a time than actually fix the issues. Therefore, they don't fix the issues.

Absolutely not normal. Just shy of 1k on my 2020. I'd be seriously concerned/pissed if mine was doing this.

An advise. Use the S word. Tell them your afraid for your safety . What if it stalkls again in the freeway. Let him see you document things. Ask for his name . Ask them to place it in writing. Im sure he'll sing another tune .
Try to hold off to any mods. They'll blame it on those lol.

If you are having the issue, can you please post the manufacturer date/location to help others? Also I'm curious :) Thank you!

No it's not a "normal" problem. Please try a different dealer. If they jerk you around, contact corporate.

In my sixty years of life I have noticed mediocre people who gain whatever meager power use it for the most petty gratification. That service writer was flexing on you. You can flex back by reporting him to his manager. And then going to another dealer with a better adjusted service writer.

Oh I know man, 2nd gens aren't without their own problems. Any machine with this many moving parts is bound to have one or two. That said, these sorts of reliability concerns are pretty serious. My comment is more to do with how awesome the last model years of the 3rd gen are likely to be, which holds true for pretty much any vehicle generation.

I have a 2020 with 20,000 miles on it already and it’s never stalled or thrown any codes. As others have mentioned you may want to call Toyota corporate and get help. I had a similar situation with our grand Cherokee diesel a few years ago. We had bad experience until calling Jeep directly and then it all got sorted out.

Stopped by dealer again this morning. “trac off” and “check engine” light on again. They were very busy, with cars backed out the door. Told me it wasn’t a good time to visit. Told them this car stalls, sputters, and dies at the worst times and I can’t believe this is normal. Told them to check the fuel pump. Someone asked me to name the dealer, but I’m not here to rat anyone out or get kicked off the forum. I just want my car fixed and maybe help the next guy or girl out. No one should have to deal with these problems or service. Said they have no time to fix it (which I believe..they were very busy) and sent me away in a Camry.
