This bothered me enough I couldn't sleep and after laying in bed for around 4 hours thinking about it decided to get up and say something about it.

He looks to about ~4 months or so now. No way you can use a chart for ALL dogs as to how much exercise they can take. A GSP will go a LOT further than a lap dog, just saying.

IME you only have until about 3 months old before you can actually wear them out. And they are back sleepers.

IME that is a short window of time where you can actually wear them out. After that good luck. Something isn't right IME.

Retired from the Navy in 95 in Asheville where I did my twilight tour on recruiting duty for WNC. MEPS was in Charlotte. Moved there from Currituck, NC when I was stationed in the Tidewater Area. My first thought and same thought for the last couple of hours is heat and humidity. My Mother and youngest sister live in the RTP area.

My guys have always laid in the last little bit of snow that exists, they don't do well with heat and humidity.

Even here I use a kiddie pool for them to lay in when they overheat which doesn't take long in the summer.

I have always gotten my pups right after hunting season. December - January when it is 20-30 below zero. Go on demand words have always been HURRY UP!

I'd get a kiddie pool or 50 gal. rubber maid feed container for him to cool off in. Assuming you don't live on Lake Norman itself which only those with very deep pockets can do.

Doubt very much you are dragging him for 2 miles but letting him do it on his own. About right given his age.

But he should be coming back sleeping 15 minutes if your lucky then getting into trouble opening cabinets using his paws as hands. You are around the stage that we call the white tornado. Grapping the end of the toilet paper (which not long ago was worth gold) and dragging it through the house. Then telling him NO you will not do that. OK boss I will keep it in the bathroom. But have to push the issue, to just outside the bathroom but it isn't the whole house...

Oh and by the way reminds me having a cheap 3' leash on him at all times will help when he pushes boundaries and tries to avoid you and you can step on it or grab it to get his attention.

Have a water bowl for Nova but he has always preferred to drink out of the toilet so leave the seat up. He likes cold fresh water so flushes the toilet first and then drinks out of it with fresh cold water. Today walked by the bathroom and both he and his sister were sitting by the door with their tongues hanging out blocking the entrance to the bathroom. And could hear the toilet running. Great he taught her to drink out of the toilet and one of them broke the stem or flapper valve. So stared at them and asked which one broke it. She flinched first and yawned @Fishpond knows of what I speak.

Couldn't really get mad at her wasn't really her fault but she is not gentle and doesn't have a sensitive touch.

But something is not right and only thing can think of is heat and humidty. PM me if you want and I can ask some people but no way he should be resting that much at that age. At least IME.

Puppy exercise charts are not meant to be a "you must do this" kinda thing and are also only meant to give you an ideal of what a healthy amount of continuous time a puppy should exercise not total amount of exercise in a full day. If someone chooses to use the charts there is no limit that I've ever scene about how many times you can walk/exercise them for the recommended distance/time. They are meant to help limit the risk of over exercising a puppy who is still growing.
The heat and humidity is def something to keep in mind and watch out for.
Sleeping that much is likely not an issue IMO based off the info given. It was probably the first walk the pup had ever been on and also the most continuous exercise he had done. I would fully expect it to wear him out pretty dang good, as you said it wont last in a bread who is capable of a lot more exercise. When one of my boys(husky/GSD) was 4 months old I took him for his first walk around the block, a 10-15 minute walk, and he was passed out for hours. He could have easily gone further. Every walk after that we played when we got home and he didnt need that much sleep again. As his stamina built up the amount of walks he got as a puppy increased very quickly along with the amount of play he wanted.
In the end I am just some random dog lover on the internet. As with anything you see on the internet you should do your own research on it and do what you feel is best for yourself/dog.

Exercise charts are meant to help your puppy avoid arthritis and other joint related diseases later in life by allowing the joints to form correctly as your puppy grows. And to give you guidance on what most puppies are capable of at a given age.

I should probably walk him at least a mile until hes turns 1, I think 2 miles was a bit too far, he enjoyed it though. I usually walk him (.25 - .75 miles) early in the morning or late at night while its still 65-70 degrees. I try not to wear him out when its over 85 degrees. I gave the dog a bath today and now hes bouncing off the walls so thats something we're going to work on soon. Having my toller professionally trained later this month at our house and at a facility. I've heard tollers are quite easy to train so hes gonna be learning a lot through the process.

DNA tested the puppy today after his first bath. I can see he loves the water a lot, I'm pretty sure it was his first bath so it was kinda shocking for him at first. We’ll receive the genetic results in a few weeks. The test should tell us the breed, predicted dimensions, predicted age, and any current or future issues it may have or come across in the future.

My pups always seem to have a crazy burst of energy after a bath. I think the DNA tests are fun. Had both my current rescues done. Who'd you use? I went with Wisdom panel when I did mine since it was so much cheaper than the other option. I've heard a lot of claims that its not that accurate. There Weight guess was really generic covering a 30lb spread but feel like there bread determination was likely right on.

Nice, The one that people are saying is more accurate is called Embark. I couldnt think of the name earlier. When I did it 2 and 3 yrs ago embark was 2.5-3x the cost. I didnt care enough to spend that much more and was pretty sure I knew what my 3 yr old was mixed with. The test confirmed it.

    Ahhh 1st bath!
Remember it well, good good puppy times.
All my dogs get fired up after bath time.

Hey as long as pup gets up and follows you if you go in the house or leave the room...

If hes outside alone then a lot of pups get bored and sleep when nothing else is going on.

Ive seen pups sleep 20hrs a day but Im talking lab pups, when nothing else is going on.
Yeah, you dont want to hurt them but sometimes wearing them out is a good thing.
As long as theyre active and curious and getting into trouble after nap time, theyre fine.

    Youre doing good.
And about the potty training....I also still remember the 1st time cody went to the door and gave me the "I gotta go potty" look.
    Oh thank gawd!
    Finally!!!!
... thought this one would NEVER get it.
So many puddles, so many middle of the night puppy land mines squished between my toes haha
