My findings of regular 87 octane vs premium 93 octane:

2010 TRD Sport V6 auto 3800 miles. The truck seems to run slightly better with premium. A bit more response to throttle input and less downshifting when power is needed. The surprising thing to me is that I get slightly better gas mileage with the regular 19.5 - 20.5 vs 18.5 - 19.5 with premium. Not sure which way I will go with this but currently leaning towards the regular as a result of the gas increases.

Considering the computer should adapt to different type gas.... it really doesn't matter what you run. Most folks will get better gas mileage with higher octane but they fail to realize the expense of buying that higher octane. Even though you're getting better gas mileage, doesn't always mean you're saving money.

Is it really worth the extra cost?

People need to figure out the COST PER MILE when running different types of octanes. That'll give you a better idea of how much money you're spending.

And if you see better throttle response & performance - and its worth the extra cost to you.... Run with it. Personal Preference.

What about higher octane at higher altitudes? Way back when, you would use lower octane fuel at higher altitudes because of less oxygen. Is this still true with the newer electronics? Don

yea i noticed the same thing. i use shells v-power and have been getting around 350-370 mpg before the e light comes on. i can probably get more too depending on how much more i want to drive since i still have a few gals left after the light comes on.

Oh my god.. this is not a debate. It can't be debated. Its proven science!

Its probably your lighter wallet that makes your seat of pants dyno feel different and time to "light on" is not calculating mileage.

I tried and didn't see a difference about MPG. However, I use premium when towing, as recommended in owner manual.

I think it sounds like this: "since I put a premium gas and I want a better MPG, my foot will be lighter".

    My opinion ;)

Hmmm...maybe premium burns hotter and thats why you got better MPG with regular...also might solve why it has a quicker response for ya :notsure:

I run 87 all the time and I have no problems so to hell with paying an extra 30+ cent a gallon

Holy crap, you get 350-370mpg!? You must be with the GM/Chevy Volt marketing team.
