The last few days the egr code p0401 came up then went away. Anyone familiar with that?

 

Most often VSV or modulator
I don't have FSM for diagnostics though.

 

What does VSV stand for?

 

Truck will run like shit if the EGR gets stuck open

I meant plugged up with carbon. Which could cause it to run like poo.

 

Not plugged. Truck has power just at idle it skips like a vacuum issue. Saw a video like @Black DOG Lila said something about the VSV. Would that make it have a small skip to it?

 

Could be a vacuum leak. Get it smoked out out.

 

Rough idle is symptomatic of VSV inoperative or intermittent operation.
I think @cruiserguy has FSM for.VSV and modulator testing. I'm a parts cannon kinda guy who would just replace the VSV (because why not, it's 15+ years old) indications point to it and my vac lines are all new thick wall silicon.

Makes sense now to me because I have sprayed all vacuum lines with brake cleaner. No difference. Truck still has the slight skip. Truck is 22 years old so....
VSV can cause slight skip and cause code p0401. Guess that’s my next part to fix.

If you got boop boop and not rumbleclickiy rumbleclickiy rumblestumbleclickity check Vale clearance for a too tighty poopity out valviethingy.
Especially if you rev engine and turn key to off and get one loud pop.
