RATS!!! Please help with identifying these harnesses!

Rats ate my taco! Can anyone please let me know what parts to purchase to replace the three wire harnesses that have been destroyed by rats in these pictures.

I'm hoping someone can help me identify what parts to purchase to replace the wire harnesses.

Dealer quotes $2500+ so I'm pretty stressed. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated!!!

I am getting P2443 with Check Engine and Trac light on and the truck is in limp mode (20 mph limit). Having done some searching this is the Secondary Air Injection Pump voltage issue, which I assume is one of the wire harnesses in the picture.

 

Unplug the connectors. Look very very closely on on the ends and you'll see some numbers. I use my phone to zoom in. Take those numbers to a dealer and they can usually hook you up with repair wires.
There's a connector catalog somewhere here that lists them all with directions in dismantling the connectors to replace the wires.

That suuuuuuuux. Hope you get it straightened out without to much hassle

 

You can also look at eBay for these part numbers. For example, if the cables are ok then you may consider getting the connectors themselves.

I’d try a salvage yard. Buy the whole engine harness.

Have you checked with your insurance company? Some cover rodent damage.
Who knows what else they tore up.

 

Damn dude, that sucks. We just had to have some work done on my daughter's Corolla for that. Mice chewed the wires to the shift indicator switch. We thought the CVT transmission was going bad but it turns out it was just the wires to the switch.
Man, that just really sucks. Best of luck and let us know what you end up doing.

 

That is definitely not $2500 worth of work. Those guys are trying to take you on a ride. A darn good one too.. take the advice above. You will end up in a severely better financial position after it's all said and done.

FYI that wiring is easily fixable if you are handy with soldering. No need to replace entire engine harnesses. A good mechanics shop will take care of you for less than an 1/8 of what the price the dealer will charge you and it'll be good as new like it never even happened.

 

This^^ If you aren't handy with soldering, it would be a good time to learn.

 

Dam man if you don’t do it that’s a costly repair at the dealer.

 

ONe of the worst moves by wire manufacturers was when they went from a petroleum based insulation to a plant based insulation. Almost seems like this issue should be as big a recall as the air bag fiasco.

Thank you sincerely for all the great advice and tips. I was able to identify the black connector as the secondary air injection pump connector so I was able to place the order for that part. However, I am stuck in finding out what the grey connector in the photo is. Anyone have idea what this grey connector is?

To the folks who mentioned soldering -- Would it be reasonable to repair this damage just by putting some solder over the connection and then taping over it? I don't have experience with soldering but I'm willing to learn.

 

Just came to here to agree with the others and say this would be a super simple fix. Even if you don't know how to solder you could spend an hour watching soldering videos on youtube, practice yourself, and have your harness fixed in a few hours - truck back up and running by the end of the night.
Those pin connectors are usually pretty easy to get out in my past experience, too.
^I'm sure youtube or googling will bring up some tips and tricks for this as well

Check with your insurance company. I got a rat in truck a few years ago and of course it chewed up some wires. Allstate covered the damages.

Rodent damage should be covered under your comp coverage, assuming you have it.

 

Comprehensive always has a deductible that you have to pay. $250 or $500 or something. This is such a simple fix that it’s not worth turning in on the insurance.

 

Ok, sure but any insurance agent worth their salt would tell you that you should carry a comprehensive deductible of no more than $100 and if the dealer quoted $2500, well I’d say worth the deductible even at $250, $500 etc is worth turning it in as comp claims don’t effect your premiums. If that rat chewed that wire, he very could have chewed more. Worse off he could still be living in the car and jump out on you while driving! Let the dealer fix it if you have comp coverage.
