    I have a 17-ft sea kayak.

For short trips, I put it in the bed with a Yakima bed extender (6-ft bed).
For long trips I put a height extension on the bed extender and then lay it across the cab using a single Yakima bar (with towers).
Obviously just throwing it in the bed is an option if you have a shorter poly boat.

I 2nd this. I run the same t-bone bed extender, and it allows me to keep my kayak pretty well loaded up which allows me to launch quicker. Here is mine with my outback.

This is pretty sold out. Damn. Thanks for the pic. I’m about to buy a Hobie. Either the outback or compass.

Have you checked Harbor Freight? We are taking our 2 12-foot Kayaks out this weekend. I am carrying them in the bed using the OEM bed extender. We’re only going an hour away, so no biggie.

I have ordered the OEM roof rack though. After reading some reviews of various options, I decided to go OEM. The ability to fold the crossbars back to decrease noise and wind resistance is a big plus IMO, plus less costly than some others.

I have some Yakima Kayak carriers to mount on the bars. When we travel we will have the kayaks on the roof and bikes in the truck bed.

This was on my old access cab, but I still use the same set up on my DCLB now. Works for long lumber or canoes/kayak. Tonneau cover stays in place, and there’s just enough room to crack the tailgate and release the tonneau without taking off the hitch mounted holder
