Hey TW, this is kinda ridiculous but I’m looking for ideas.. I was off-roading out in the woods for a couple hours today and only got out a couple times to take pictures. While driving home on the interstate I felt a crawling sensation on my neck. Grabbed it with my hand and it was a flat tick. Freaked out a little and dropped it on the floor. Pulled over as soon as I could but I could not find the SOB anywhere! Pulled the floor mat, looked up underneath, all that.

I don’t think it bit me yet and read up on ticks the last few hours, I should be clear of Lyme Disease since transmission occurs 24-36 hrs after digging into your skin.. and only deer ticks seem to carry Lyme. Regardless I’ll be looking for bullseye rashes and swollen joints.

But now I’m trying to figure what to do about the truck?? Leave it in the summer heat for a couple days? Bug bomb? Set ablaze? Any ideas appreciated.

Forget about it. Not worth stressing over.

I've been bit so many times. Lol

Grow a pair and don't freak out over the little bug in your truck.

I guess if you're worried about kids or animals you could google and see if a car bug bomb would do the trick ?

It’s totaled! Jk. Don’t worry. I have a big hairy dog that used to have fleas...prob still does...and he rides in the back. On a side note, darn fleas live in the grass in the backyard so can’t avoid it.

Just keep checking yourself after you drive the truck. You'll find it eventually, or it will die.

I found one on myself at work one day, I'd just gotten to my toolbox, scratched my head and it was a freakin tick! I flicked my hand and didn't see where is went. Two days later it was on the front fins of the computer reaching out to grab anything it could.

I put it in a zip lock to A: show the other techs I wasn't nuts and B: make it die a slow, slooow death. Couldn't believe I found it though!

Torch it for sure... I'd just leave the windows down (if possible) and it should probably find its way out. Lymes disease is no joke my ex girlfriend got it and it messed her up real bad.

OP, not ridiculous at all. One good friend of mine almost died of Lyme disease -- it wrecked his life. We take it seriously in NY where it seems ticks are everywhere !

According to the Tick Encounter Web Site at Univ of RI, you should be fine -- the tick will die in a day or so. Here is what they noted about a tick in your house and so I assume the truck is a comparable environment, for the most part:

" In a typical house environment, unfed deer ticks are not likely to survive even 24 hours. Ticks on moist clothing in a hamper can survive 2-3 days. Ticks that have taken a blood meal may survive a bit longer but certainly not the 30+ days it takes to mature and bite again or lay eggs."
