Can confirm, had about 10 bites so far this year from super small ticks, pulled them off with pointy tweezers, the bite looked just like that and itched for weeks.

I did PT for awhile, they got me to the point that I am able to do things on my own and walk without the use of a walker.

Its a unknown how or if I will fully recover from it. I have spinal damage that resulted from the infection, so I will forever have something

It certainly sucks, but your right, you cant live your life in fear of something thats very hard to control.

I will say the one positive about getting it is that my upper body has gotten way stronger than it used to be. I have to use my upper body for most things I used to use my legs for.

Man that is scary. I can only wish and hope the best for you. My friend who almost died from Lyme disease had his own landscaping company. He pretty much lost the business because he was unable to work for a very long time. I totally feel for you ...

Yeah lyme can mess you up pretty good. Crazy that just a tiny bug bite can cause so much chaos.

I've been telling my kids "if you dont think 1 person can change the world, just remember this whole pandemic started with some dude eating a bat"

Live in the woods and with all the triple E and West Nile virus I just starting spraying my yard. Works very well I spend a lot of time outside and I haven’t even seen a bug in god knows how long. I use this every 3 weeks.D238135B-AAB2-46C4-9CF2-249F41118CA7.jpg

i live on 10 wooded acres in eastern NY, just about ground zero for lyme. i get bit - by deer ticks specifically - a couple times every year. because i have a dog, i find many more crawling on him, me, or just in the house. since he gets Nexguard they crawl on him but won't bite him, so they end up crawling around inside. if they bite me, i usually find them within a few hours, but sometimes i wake up and find them, realize they've been on me since at least the day before. if i think there's reason for concern i go to urgent care and get a prophylactic dose of antibiotics, but the doc is usually just humoring me. it's seldom necessary.

i was really freaked out about lyme when i first moved here but after being bitten more times than i can remember, i see it as a totally manageable risk. don't freak out, just check yourself morning and night for a few days.

After that little spell of getting them, I have been spraying my legs and shoes with repellent.

Where in Eastern NY are you? I am in the Catskills (among other places). It is manageable especially since you have 24 to 36 hours before they transmit Lyme disease. Careful checks and pull them out with tweezers and you will be fine. It is manageable if you pay attention and crazy enough some people who get "the ring" don't get that sick and some who don't get "the ring" get very sick.

But I agree with you 100% ... diligence is key ...

I have never been bitten that I can recall, seldom even find one crawling on me.

Every time I hit the woods with the pooches there are several hitchhikers on them, and my Aussie has Lyme, but you'd never know it. Doesn't phase dogs most of the time but its generally downright awful in humans.

Maybe it's a blood type thing?

Here's a personal twist on the tick story...lol.

I was catching up on some e-mails after a day on my tractor knocking saplings on my property line. Suddenly my beard started crawly/itching, not thinking I grabbed whatever it was and plucked it then reflexively bit down on it didn't have my cheaters on so I deposited it on a piece of paper.

Got thinking was that a tick ? I grabbed my 20x jewelers loop and yup, I had bitten a deer tick in half. Who needs chemicals when you have teeth ?

Depends where you are in the country. If OP is in the NE, he has good reason to freak out. Ticks can go months without a meal so I don't think it'll die of starvation. I got bit by a tick in Connecticut, got the red ring, and went on doxycycline. Lke I said, I’d spray premethrin all over and spot test it on the seats to see if it changes the color of the fabric.

Here’s a pic from that summer, my coworker was keeping the ticks he found crawling on him in a film case which he called the thunderdome. Yes thats a ball of ticks brawling

Be nice if something like this was available for humans.

Yes ! I’ve had them buried on me countless times . The worst one was was right between the flopper and the danglers . Not a socially acceptable place to scratch a itch throughout the day lol . I generally light a match blow it out and touch the head on the tick to remove it .

Except when I was a teenager . At fifteen when I got my first tick I freaked out and ripped it off leaving the head . I never did that again .

Ive heard that is not recommended as burning them can make the tick puke and potentially transmit disease. Best to grab them by the head with a tweezer or use a tick key
