Tacoma’s made in Mexico — When?

Mine says assembled in Texico.

 

Yeah, no.

Give it time, they all average out to be about the same. The pool of people here that have answered this question a thousand times already has enough stats to show there is no difference in where a Taco is born in relation to problematic trucks. It far exceeds your anecdotal evidence.

 

Well, you have more faith than me. Its bad enough buying components manufactured in mexico or elsewhere, but i refuse to buy a vehicle thats not manufactured here.

 

Problem is, our area dealers seem to getting all their stock from mexico now, so when get an issue you can thank medico for it.

 

No problem, just research the last 4 years of data here already.

 

5+ year old Tacoma...produced May '15 in Mexico. It's been flawless.



The Baja plant has been producing Tacomas longer than Texas...several years more. Some people, whether they admit to it or even realize it, have a certain bias towards to Texas assembled trucks. There seems to be this quiet underlying idea for some that there is no way the Mexican assembled rigs could be on par with the quality of the US produced ones. That's ridiculous. I challenge anyone to find tangible proof of it. And I don't mean..."I have a friend who said....." or I know a mechanic who said....". That's all anecdotal horseshit.

Why do these same tired old threads continue to pop up weekly....for years on end?

 

Why? This isn't 1955 anymore. We live in a global society....have for sometime.

2010 here, zero issues. Says made in Baja on the door jamb.

 

But for some people....if they have a problem with their rig and it just happened to be produced in Mexico, they'll say..."well yeah....because it's from Mexico". But if it was from Texas it would be..."oh well, luck of the draw" or "shit happens" or "that's what warranty is for"....blah blah blah.

 

It's a bummer for sure no Tacoma's will be made in the US anymore, but it won't stop me from buying another, along with most people, and I think Toyota knows that. Toyota has such a loyal fanbase with the Tacoma that they can basically do anything and people will still buy them.

 

Before the Nummi (Freemont, CA) plant in the 80s...no Toyota trucks came from the US. But we still bought 'em.

 

I didn't have a single issue with my 1999 Tacoma and traded that 1 in with over 200k miles. Fantastic truck and sold my 2010 private sell for more than dealer would give me and that 1 had just 1 issue with ac compressor line other than that no issues so I have no worry that my 2020 will hold to the same standard

 

I would rather have the extended warranty and never have an issue and never use it vs I dont have it and have a major problem that nots covered

 

But what would the results have been had you spoken to folks with Texas assembled rigs? It's a 50/50 shot on who you talked to. You just happened to speak to a couple of people who had Mexican built vehicles.

And I'll take a minute to defend both plants....well 3 now. Some of the issues that have cropped up with the 3rd gen...especially early on had nothing to do with the actual assembly plants. Most can be traced back to design, engineering and parts suppliers. The best assembly plant in the world can't build out a poor design (not saying the 3rd gen is). Even the paint issues on some colors may not necessarily be the fault of the plant, depending on what the material quality and procedures Toyota has laid out for them.

 

I'm 5 years into my 8yr/125k Platinum warranty. Haven't used it yet

 

It's just more peace of mind. But I did hear when they 1st changed the v6 to a 4.0l there were definitely problems

 

I've said my peace.....until the next, "I just found out my truck was made in Mexico" thread pops up.

Right there with, "what's the best oil to use", "10k mile oil changes are crazy", "switching to Rotella 20w-50 because 0w-20 is too thin" and "what's the biggest tire I can fit on stock suspension?" threads.

 

Early 1GRs had a head gasket design issue. That was remedied mid way through the '06 MY

 

It may not be where its mfg, but what parts are being assembled together to make a truck, this is becoming quickly evident recently that the parts are being accessed from all parts of the world, including third world countries, The older Tacomas that gave us reliability and a good name had parts from Japan, now it seems the parts used are china, mexico, thailand, etc. lowest bidder, not the most reliable parts supplier like back in the day. Think about it, now there are problems with the low and high pressure fuel pumps, I have seen three recent posts about failed serpentine belt pullies, the list goes on, I think Toyota may have sold out like GM, Ford, Dodge, using substandard parts packages, all being mfg in Mexico to cut costs. All of a sudden the tow package has one less item, no aux trans cooler, etc. Major cost cutting going on. Maybe I am wrong but I don't think so.
