Hi all, it's taken me a few days to inquire about what I'm about to write. But I didn't find much info "googling". I have a 2020 trd sport premium package. Just about 2k miles I got the jittery screen on the dashboard. No big deal. I've read about it before. Turned it off then back on and gone. The next few days the truck shut off on me a few times in 2 days. I noticed it happened on low gears, maybe while down shifting like pulling into a drive through or coming to a stop light. I took pictures of the dashboard alarms (will try to upload here if I can figure it). One of the alarms was high transmission fluid temperature. Which I doubted because I had driven 5 minutes. The other alarm was "check charging system". So, I had to shift to P and restart. It started with no hesitation. But like I said it happened again a few times.
Called the dealership took it in and almost 2 weeks later they haven't found anything wrong nor been able to replicate the issues. Now Monday a supposed "high engineer" is coming to diagnose. Their concern as well as mine is that this happened while in motion. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.20200622_155211.jpg 20200622_155211.jpg 20200622_155211.jpg 20200623_145818.jpg

Possible loose connection, like a ground, or faulty ECU. They'll track it down, I don't think it's a widespread problem, but don't blame you for your concern.

I'm assuming you purchased this new? If so and they are unable to fix it I'd say you're covered by the Lemon Law. Toyota would have to buy it back from you. I wouldn't worry either way.

I understand it could be any of those. However, as a technician myself, 2 weeks to diagnose a faulty ECU?

While I do agree with you, dealers aren't the top level trouble shooters that are somehow synonymous with their names. They're parts changers. It takes someone with skill and pride to look at a wiring diagram and do their due diligence, checking powers, grounds, signal wires, etc. Best u can hope for is someone following a troubleshooting flow chart, coming to a conclusion then swapping a part. If it doesn't work, whole process starts again. If u want it fixed right, and being a technician, you're better off figuring out what's wrong yourself, and writing a detailed how to for the tech to find at the dealer, so u get whatever part is needed for free haha.

Well then you already know, there's a good chance a tech hasn't spent 80 hours diagnosing; it's probably spent it's time in the lot waiting for more profitable jobs to complete, and then they'll fiddle with PITA.

Wow, seems a few 2020’s seem to have sudden shutting off issues . Hope this issue gets sorted out. Might just be a loose connection somewhere. Any mods done ? I’m not an expert but a flickering screen first then followed by those seems to point to electrical issues.
