Predator steps

I’m confused about the purpose of predator steps. They look cool but do they have a practical or protective purpose?
I don’t plan on ever doing any extreme off-roading or rock crawling.
I don’t know if I should get them.
Thoughts...

 

Do you need steps or protection?

 

They'll help you step into the Tacoma but run the risk of snagging on anything with even mild offroading.

 

I don’t think I would ever need protection nor would I necessarily need to step up anywhere

Purpose is to use as steps.

 

If you don't think either is applicable then I'm not sure either is necessary. As boogie said the predators can get hung up on stuff. People will say that the sliders help against door dings, but I think that protection is limited.

 

These and similar steps are often on Craigs List. I bought some off brand steps on Craigs List a couple of weeks ago for $50. The guy had traded in his 2017 Tacoma. They had some light rust. Did a rattle can repaint. My Mom is 82 and I have a gaggle of kids so steps come in handy. They are also good for when I am washing my roof and windshield.

 

Yup, had a audi suv back into my drivers door. 2 to 4 inches above the slider. Of course no witnesses and they won't own up to it.

 

Audi and BMW driver should be an automatic assumption of liability.

 

My old Jeep has what we called nerf bars. Sitting in a parking lot waiting for my wive some dingbat pulls up and swings her door open rather forcefully. These are 3" diameter steel tubes. It left a very nice crescent in the edge of her door. The shouting and accusations (hers) ensued. With threats of calling the police and her husband. I just started laughing. It made her so mad she got back in the car and sped off. Oh, it did chip the paint on the nerf bar. But with all the rock chips and scrapes it wasn't noticeable.

Note to self, maybe I should get something that sticks out further than the Predator steps.

 

Personally, those steps are ankle magnets with those sharp edges.

 

They look cool, had them, lifted my truck and when removed it looked higher. They served no purpose in helping me get in. I'm 6 feet and trying to avoid them is more of a pain in the ass, plus my pants always rubbed against them. Not a big deal but on dress pants I didn't like that. Again they look great but serve no other purpose.

 

My 7 and 4 year old use them to get in so mine are staying until they grow tall enough to not need them. Then sliders.

 

My buddy has them on his Tacoma, so I tried them,,,, they don't seem to be of any use, unless using to load roof rack, or lower high spots in terrain.

 

My 4 and 6 year old girls get in fine without them. They never really used the step when I had them on. In fact after I sold them my neighbor gave me his off his pro when he got sliders.
