Haha, I let me buddy borrow my boat for a week and he was out at Bullards Bar. He had the same experience, caught a ton of fish, but they were all dinks.

Ahhh no way! That’s hilarious! Yeah a hella cool lake to fish. I was honestly shocked at how many we caught compared to the size of them. It felt like we were catching stocked trout that had just been planted.... same size every time. Kind of a bummer after like the 10th fish.

Went to Aquatic Park today, red rock crabs kept eating my live anchovies! Got kinda frustrating. At least the rockfish bite was good...

Also went to Oregon last weekend. Stayed with my childhood friend and her Dad. He’s an absolute Fly Fishing legend. Gave me my first fly rod and tons of gear when I was about 10. He took the boy out and got one together on a nymph, it was epic to witness (from the beach). Then spent the evening teaching him to tie flies. It was truly incredible to watch and realize that’s two generations of my family he introduced to fly fishing

Sorry! Should have specified! Both reels are right-hand and the SX (red one) is 6.4:1 while the X (black one) is 7.3:1.

Spent a couple of days in southern Oregon at a badass cabin on the Umpqua River. Lots of driving, but the most fun fishing I have ever had - no contest.

The day I got there (in the afternoon), I wasted no time getting on the water. Literally unlocked my cabin door, put on some fishing gear, tied some baits on my poles and dropped in. In just a few hours, I easily caught 40-50 fish.

First official day, I woke up early, had some coffee and breakfast, and dropped back in for some more fishing. When I say it was easily 100 fish caught that day, there is no exaggeration. I got to a point where I had to stop fishing for awhile in the afternoon it was so constant of a bite. Came back on the water at about 5pm and crushed the bass again until 8 or so. It was almost every cast that I was getting a bite or fish.

The second day I woke up and had breakfast, cruised the property for awhile, and then left for home. All-in-all, about 16-17 hours of driving, but was so worth it. Next time I go back, I’ll definitely stay a couple more days.

Over an hour of GoPro footage that I still need to go through and edit, but below are a couple quick iPhone videos and photos of the trip. All fish caught were smallmouth and they were caught on poppers, the Ned rig, and crawdad-imitation crankbaits. Good times!

Shimano DC reels have digitally controlled braking systems. They make a electronic humm noise when you cast.

Thanks man! And yeah they were smoking soft plastics up there. And honestly, in general, I’d say 85% of my smallies caught are on a soft plastic. You should ABSOLUTELY go for them one day. They fight like a bat out of hell. If I could only catch one type of black bass for the rest of my life, smallmouth all the way. Lol
