Man, that is some tragic stuff. We all know how dangerous these machines can be, but that sounds like a freak accident.

I saved my FIL some time on his deck footers over the weekend. About 30 min with the backhoe on the BX and we had them kicked. So many roots where they were digging. It would've taken them an entire weekend to dig all 10. I also helped their next door neighbor rip out some bushes that landscapers cut off about 4-6 inches from the ground. They have a ton of kids running around and these little spikes were just waiting to injure someone.

That’s pretty slick. Are you running everything off of the hydraulics that were already on the machine or did you add another pump and tank?

It really is a freak accident although all this guys equipment sits outside and I’m sure that may have had a factor in the seat breaking. Not sure if it rusted away and fell off or the bolts came out. It is a 45 year old tractor.

It's all running off the factory Hydro-Gear BDU-21L hydro. Cub built these to run up to 4 hydraulic cylinders from the factory with expandable/stackable spool valves: 1 deck lift cylinder, (1) 3pt lift cylinder, 1 snowplow lift cylinder, and 1 snowplow angling cylinder. Also runs the hydraulic power steering cylinder.

It's the same hydro they used in their subcompact tractors from the same era.

Yeah, this thing is impressive for its size. I think they quit building them as they were right at the edge of the SCUT market they were focusing on at the time. So, nearly SCUT components at garden tractor pricing.

I don't know why but I have struggled with the float setting on this hitch. I doodled, measured, figured etc and analysis paralysis set in. I finally walked out to the garage and started cutting steel and it dawned on me what to do.

So simple, make a slotted bracket that bolts into the cylinder end and sticks downward, pinned to the hitch, letting the hitch pin slide upward. Bolt will be welded to the slotted bracket. Gonna cut this long in case I need more float. My old deck cylinder had 2 3/4" of float. I think I have 1.5" in this one as it sits.

Worst thing is I have to go put on pants to weld it. Been dancing around the hot steel chips this morning in shorts and flip flops lol. upload_2020-7-2_12-51-50.gif Too HOT for pants! My sig really comes into play today.

    ETA:
Got her floatin. Built 2 plates and a pipe between them. If I need more lift height I'll put a pin in the bottom of the slots. May make a block to put in there to make it easy to switch to downpressure.

We’re on vacation in Independence Virginia and there’s a lot of Christmas trees and hay here.

Hey guys I am Looking for some help ,
Was having a starting issue with my JD 140 lawn tractor , thought I had it solved and determined it to be the solenoid. If you tapped the frame where the solenoid was attached it engage starter . Starter had been disassembled inspected And cleaned previously. So I got a new solenoid at Napa , didn’t bother going to John Deere Because tractor is so old etc.
Now on occasion the starter will not disengage when you let key back and even remove it . It did this on the first start with new solenoid so I replaced the Terminal end on the small wire from the ignition , checked all connections and it worked good after that for several starts. But every once and a while , the starter fails to disengage and shut off.
Was going to start looking into the ignition switch , but thought I’d check and see if anyone here may be able to offer some help.
    Thanks in advance .

I’d say a faulty ignition switch since the solenoid didn’t fix it
