Bilstein vs Eibach

I'm sure this has been discussed and I've read many threads but haven't found info that I'm actually looking for, so here goes. I would like a minimal lift, around 2 inches all around. I've looked at both Bilstein 5100's and Eibach pro truck lift stage 1. I also plan on a 3 leaf aal for the rear. I'm not sure if I should stay with the stock springs or go with aftermarket. I want the setup with the better ride. Ive read that different settings are required on the shocks depending whether you have stock or aftermarket springs in order to achieve lift and worry about ride quality. I've seen where some have had issues with the OME springs with 5100's and that some like 5100's and others dont. I'm sure some aren't happy with the Eibach set up but I haven't read where anyone has complained about them. I've never changed any suspension on my trucks in the past so this is new to me. So I'm looking for some advice and info. Pros and cons for stock springs vs aftermarket when lifting (not worried about the extra cost for new springs), difference in ride/performance with each and any other info that I may need to be aware of. I appreciate any input of thoughts that anyone would like to share. Thanks.

 

5100’s all around. Front 1.5” OEM COIL / Rear 1.5” Wheelers AAL. Great for me and my needs. Eibach is a great kit as well members really like that one as well. Both are great budget lifts.

Thanks. How do compare the ride vs stock? Is it too stiff or rough riding of better and smoother?

 

Eibach is the best bang for the buck IMO. Mine rode very good for the 30k mi I had them installed, no complaints what so ever.

don’t buy into the 5100 hype, there are much better options out there for a budget lift.

 

Stiffer but in a good way. No nose dive and body roll on turns. Planted for sure. AAL is not to bad. I don’t mind. If you want you can look into 3 leaf AAL. JUST A thought. Love the lift subtle and 265’s look good imo

 

Both are good kits.

 

I did, I specifically said Eibach is the best bang for the buck. No offense but they are totally different setups.

Eibach = progressive = smooth ride for street driving, better for low velocity impacts
5100’s = digressive = rough ride, better for high velocity impacts

Eibach coils = don’t sag after a while unlike OME’s which are notorious for doing.

Eibach = specifically designed for the 3rd gens (300lbs heavier up front, hence the higher spring rate), not shocks that were designed for 2nd gens and happen to fit 3rd gens.

5100’s, because that’s what everyone on TW recommends

OP, I would say get whatever you can afford, but I’ve given my recommendation

 

Don’t rule out Dobinsons either, they are a good budget option.

Cost between the two isnt an issue for me. I feel that the ride will be better with new shocks and coils vs just new shocks with stock coils but I may be wrong. Great info, Much appreciated. Thanks

 

No extra weight. Just a tonneau. No plans to add a bumper, skids, sliders etc...... I'll consider that when trying to decide. Thanks

 

Our spring and shock will get you right where you want to be with no preload required. This will provide improved ride over even the factory spring on higher clips.

To clarify, the 5100 and our Pro-Truck Sport shocks are not the same. We manufacture them from raw tubes right here in our Southern California facility, as well as our springs. Like us, Bilstein truck shocks are also manufactured to OE standards in the US as well. Can’t go wrong either way but I’m happy to answer any questions about Eibach that you may have.

FYI Bilstein makes both 2nd and 3rd gen 5100s for Tacomas, you need to make sure you're ordering the right shocks if you have a preference.

 

It’s difficult to beat the overall quality & performance of the Eibach kit for the money. They did a really nice job with it. I’m very pleased with my setup, both on & off-road. Zero regrets & I highly recommend it. Eibach’s warranty is second to none as well.

I gained 2.25” of front lift on the first clip and used a 1.5” block in the rear. I also installed a .25” top plate spacer on the driver’s side for the “Taco Lean.” I ordered everything through Headstrong and had them pre-assemble my fronts. Total to my doorstep was $750.

I went with 265-75-16 KO2’s on Gunmetal Ray10’s. Zero issues. Power and MPG’s are still fine. No need for cutting my truck or regearing. I see no reason to go with a bigger tire, unless you really need that little bit of extra clearance. I was able to keep my mud guards and have zero rubbing. I did have to replace my front needle bearing with the ECGS bushing after developing the typical vibration post-lift. Hope this long post helps.

 

I went the same exact route. If you don't go racing in the Baja 500 and are just looking for a functional lift that "just works" and won't break the bank, you can't go wrong with the Eibach kit. It's the best purchase I made for the truck to date. Sadly with the Grade E KO2s though, the ride quality on trails is pretty stiff and harsh at times but.. at least I know I can run over a spike strip and the tires won't pop lol.
