OP, just leave Texas and drive up to Colorado.

Take I-70 across the state from one side to the other and report back how much power your truck has at 10,000 feet.

Seriously. You'll quickly tire of the shifting up, down, up, down, up, down....

Next to no torque below 3,000 rpm, transmission ratios don't match the finale drive well, it shits all the time at speed, The power may be there, but it's not available at low speed, like backing a trailer into a customers yard. I was completely unhappy with the 3rd gen and did move on, but this place is great, to listen to fanboys say this truck has torque beast mode?????Truly laughable.

    I love this place.

Would you be able to send part numbers? I need to install one on my Duramax. One can never have too much torque.

Basically it just holds the shift till redline in each gear and considering it’s almost 40 years old and mostly all original , it feels like it’s in self destruct mode ! Lol

For the sake of seeing both sides, I don’t think the OVTune is that ‘simple’. It’s a pretty robust rewrite of all the shift logic, and for the most part a bypass of the learning logic. It’ll still learn trim values and such, but I don’t think the heavy ‘regression to the mean’ is still an issue.

Granted, even on the same ECU and tune some vehicles behave differently than others so OV may not be a fix for all.

My experience has been that the tune makes the vehicle much more drivable in those rpm ranges that used to suck big. It also shifts much more like one would expect a normal car/truck to shift. And whatever goodness is available to us because we have these three different drive modes, are only amplified with the tune.

Toyota has definitely been working on their tune, as we hear far fewer griping about the shift logic in the 20’s than we did with the 16-18’s.

But to your original point, sometimes it IS a matter of learning how to work with the tools you’re given rather than complaining that they aren’t what you’re used to.

When it’s in POWER mode and it grabs second gear it’ll put you back in your seat !
