Today I washed my 2010 TRD/OR 4x4. I washed the truck at a pressure DIY carwash. After that I moved the truck to dry it up and then after 20 min,
I put the truck in drive and move like 7 feet and stopped for like 5 sec. to put something away (still in drive) and when released the brake the truck was like if it had the parking brake engaged, but it was not. I gave it a little bit of gas and the truck made a clunk noise and abruptly move forward after that it was perfectly normal and I could not replicate it.

I washed the inner fenders of the truck and pressure washed the wheels from the outside of the wheels no water from the differential area.

Any ideas?? I know Toyota brakes get touchy when wet but I have never seen this.

there's been multiple posts about this happening. I dont think a real reason was found. But the theory is the water "freezes" the brakes and giving it a little extra gas will free it.

hmmm.... the only thing that may do that is be e-brake cable... maybe it was jammed and then since you gave it that gas it broke it loose...

It's probably the e-brake cable. Seems like it's faulty on newer models. I would recommend taking it to toyota and see what they say if you are still under warranty. I'm sure they have quite a few complaints on it seeing we have seen this a few times already.

Seems like it happens quite frequently to Toyota Tacoma owners, even to some Tundra owners too, and most of the time water is involved.

The left rear locked up on me once when I just washed it and put it in the Garage overnight. Drug the tire a foot and stopped because of the noise.
Put it in reverse and the drum unfroze.
I think it rusts a little and being a new truck the tolerances were still tight.
I drive the truck a little after washing now and never happened again.

Well, just had this happen to me this morning when I went to leave for work. After searching for a few mins, seems like this has happened to alot of people. Yesterday got home from work, washed the truck and dried it off same way I have always done. So maybe 20 mins after I'm done my wife came home and I moved the truck so she can park in the driveway and I park the truck for the night. This morning I start the truck grab a quick smoke while it warms up for a few mins and melt the frost off the windsheild, I get in and take off the parking brake and put it in drive and it will not move! I have had the e-brake stick a little before, but never this bad. I kept hitting the e-brake petal on and off and still would go. Went from D to R, In drive gave it alot of gas to try to break it free, moved a little and then I started laying tire!! Got out of the truck, said a few choice words and got back in. All of a sudden it broke free and I was on my way to work, a few mins late. So thats the fix. She must be a little moody in the morning specially after being wet, you just have to swear at her to make her move!

it also has something to do with the crappy oem brake shoes in the rear. Mine would lock up after moisture gets in there. And if it doesn't lock, it squeals. I changed to Wagner thermoquiet brake shoes and I don't experience any of that anymore

I was pulling my friends VW out of some water (Mathew flooding in VA Beach) and I was in reverse for a block. I had my brakes seize up about 4 times. Giving it some gas un-stuck them. Thanks for thread.
