My brother just installed the SDHQ tire rack for his tundra. Had a custom swing out bumper with 37" MT and kept bottoming out with the roof top tent and loaded bed. He wheels pretty hard so he didn't want the stiff ride upgrading leafs when unloaded so relocated the tire with this set up. The tacoma over axle hang is worse. We have a greater moment arm which sucks for rebound.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
I don't think it was this exact design, but something similar that was contributing to cracked bedsides. Too much torsional stress on the side-rails. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/a-warning-about-bed-rail-tire-carriers.285889/

Just beware if you do go this route. Look into fortifying the mount with an addtl. brace that can tie-in to the bed (floor) itself and prevent any up/down movement.

The SDHQ one is a full rack though. Not just a little "tub." Laying the tire in the bed works, but takes up just as much if not more space than standing it vertical.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know if you can make the Wilco bed rail mount work with a headache rack? It sticks out about an inch and a half past the rail because it's bolted to both the cab and bedside rails, but maybe I can make it work...

That looks like a solid mount. Looks like it's for 3rd gens only though, 2nd gens don't have that wide piece above the rail...

EDIT: Actually it looks like it might work after all. Wonder if it sticks out far enough...

Little project I've been working on for the truck. The main structure has been built and the tire is now secure. Working on the layout of all other accessories now.

I’m open to ideas/opinions on the layout. Trying to keep the build as practical as possible and optimize the space.

Spent some time playing with different layouts for the additional accessories. Decided to make the Jerry can holder modular as it’ll be used the least amount of all of the features im building into this rack. The holder will be held on by 4 bolts with two additional crossmembers being added to the main structure. the can holder will be elevated to fit the tool box underneath.

also, if anyone has a plasma table and wants to cut out a new front plate that says #PelfreyBroke on it I will take the time to cut this one out and replace it.

Thanks! Actually not far from him at all. I'll shoo him a text. It's not a dire part of the project but fun more or less.

I've currently got this set up. Not practical by any means but it looks cool. Prolly gonna get rid of it and come up with something else eventually. Too hot here in PHX to do anything right now.

I love that Jerry Can set up! I grabbed something similar from www.tacojerry.com. Check it out. Here's a pic of mine.

Hi! So quick question... I ordered a Victory half-height bed rack (12" tall) so that the new RTT doesn't stick way the hell up over the truck roof line when closed. A 35" tire isn't going to stand up in the bed... would a better thought for mounting be just lying in the bed or mounted underneath to the rails on the bed rack? Ideally, I think I would still have room for camping gear. Anyone done something like this yet? I don't really want a rear bumper carrier... the truck is already long enough and I don't want some extra length added if possible.
