Crawl control not working

I tried with both tires it right against it. Should I try with a foot or so in between?

 

Seems to be a "unofficial" test going on in this thread.. If you are already in crawl mode and moving.. the results seem to be different. I have only tried the "already moving" one.. I'll try the butt up against something next.

 

I wonder if the theory is that when the crawl control is enabled, it sets the current resistance as the "baseline". So when it is actually meeting resistance it thinks it is still doing it's job. Whereas when it's from a distance, it might know that it is seeing resistance and applies gas accordingly. That would be stupid, though, because if you use it while stuck it would not work since baseline would be "stuck" resistance lol. Hopefully that makes sense, just a thought.

 

Exactly what I was thinking.. however if you see the stuck in sand video clip that they market. It's "supposed" to just dig it's way out from a dead stop.. sort of like what you did with the curb being right up against it. It does make some god awful noises when it's running though...

 

Here’s another theory. Crawl control is supposed to help you with situations where traction is an issue. If you don’t have any slippage, then craw control really isn’t necessary.

My truck
2017 TRD OR, Access Cab, 4wd
Stock tire size in Duratracs, stock gearing with some added armor.
Ovtuned (2.0), also equipped with 2wheel low mod.

Testing was done on asphalt parking lot against standard concrete curbs in soaking rain.

My truck had no issue mounting the curb in 4 low with crawl control for all test cases... both against the curb and a distance from the curb, for all speed settings.

(Also mounted the curb without really trying in 2wheel lo with crawl control also)

It really was minimal effort to get up the curb, maybe 1200rpm is all....

 

Did you let it idle, or use the gas pedal? Mine climbs no problem with gas pedal in the equation, but I think that's the issue, we shouldn't need to use the gas pedal.

 

It also works in reverse. Good to keep in mind.

 

Where do you carry your tools? I had a wrangler before the taco. My jk was great for playing around but the taco was a must once I got a real job.

 

I applied no gas pedal for any successful mounting of the curbs.
Either on the curb or away from the curb, I only released the brake and reapplied the brake after mounting the curb, with crawl on.

Without crawl, it would just idle on the curb

 

I’ve never had the crawl control really work on my 2020 trd pro. I’ve been stuck a handful of times and I’ve tried it in mud and sand mostly and it never helps. I’ve had better luck with the MTS settings and driving myself. Maybe I’m using it incorrectly? I thought it could help once you’re already stuck?

 

If you can get out with MTS, crawl control should be able to get you out. If it's not, it's likely one of the affected.

 

I’ll have to do the curb test and report back. I doubt it would climb it though. MTS has helped me because it’ll lock the front wheel acting as a pseudo locker in really muddy situations. I really need to re-gear and just get an air locker or e-locker.

 

My 2020 trd pro crawl control works up hills. Tested it the other weekend

 

Mine works on minor hills. If you really put the truck in a precarious situation you have to apply throttle and it doesn’t do anything special. MTS has saved my butt in a few mud holes tho.

 

Well, the regional tech came down and we repeated the problem while he collected data. Honestly at the end of the day they are not going to fix it until a bunch of us complain. Those of you that say you will never use it, I hope you never get in a situation where you need it. My feeling is that if we pay as much as we do for these trucks, that all features should work, especially when they use it as an advertising/selling point. Based off of some information I have, they just did all of this to appease me. I will be talking to corporate again and basically asking for a buy back.

Thanks for the update, I've been waiting eagerly for it. And thanks for pushing this so hard with them.

The crawl control works, it's just not same. Either it's an issue to be fixed, or intentional. I don't care much either way, but definitely understand your position. Surely somebody can answer the intentional or not question.

They moved the shark fin in February 2020 production to accommodate the roof rack, left the rest of us SOL so far.

 

The Toyota tech acknowledged the crawl control in your truck is not working as it should and they’re not gonna fix it?

There has to be more to this story.

 

I tried the crawl control today with the curb test.. Right against it.. The truck applied throttle and climbed the curb on it's own.. RPM went to around 1200rpm.. Will run the test again when I can with some distance between the curb and the tire. 2020 TRD off road.
