Yeah, throttle body spacer but I love that the swirling shape helps improve combustion. I mean the air has to travel through a bunch of intake runners in the upper intake, down the lower intake into the cylinder head then into the cylinder where it can be mixed with high-pressure fuel.. but I'm sure the air remembers that cool swirl it took. :D

TB spacers are okay for nitrous injection or a location for a boost port if you need one.

The truth is engines are giant air pumps. So you move air through the engine with fewer restrictions if possible and add fuel to match or you force air into the engine with turbo, supercharger, nitrous, etc. Most of these fancy air intakes, exhaust systems, other gimmicks are BS for power gains.

Tunes can sometimes make a big difference. My C63 picked up 80HP/65lb Ft from just a computer flash but that's a weird deal. Mercedes doesn't like building a million engines so they share the same engine in many high-performance cars but detune the cheaper models. Now if I could just pull the big 6.3L V8 out of that thing and shoehorn it into the taco. That would be a SEMA truck for sure. 550HP naturally-aspirated taco anyone? :bikewheelie2:

Exactly, this is more inline with the overall effect of aftermarket coils. Power increase is simply a result of a "performance" coils (whatever that means) ability to maintain a constant voltage under load. Stock coil packs are perfectly fine for the job, however there has been lots of testing (not so much in the Toyota truck sector) about stock coils dropping off voltage in higher RPM ranges which coincidentally is where Tacomas make peak power. Tacomawold member hiPSI did a great read on performance which can be found HERE. In the end my .02 for whatever its worth is to think of these new to market Ripp Coil Packs not as a power adder but a pack that has the ability to remain more consistent through the power band which as a BONUS frees up a few ponies!

I won't be buying a set for myself but everyone has been quick to attack these on the internet and I do believe if you understand more about electronic ignition there are some benefits. Whether or not you want to spend the $300+ is your choice in the end. Good read...

I meant electronics efficiency in the truck, which has no effect on peak HP.

The rev ranges where stock coils start dropping efficiency is well above the redline and fuel cutoff for the engines in the truck. I can pull one of the coil packs off the truck to test, but I'd guess they maintain acceptable voltage and spark until at least 10k rpm.

Coil pack upgrades that claim to increase performance on an otherwise stock engine are snake oil and bullshit. Don't waste your money on this crap.

The faster that the gasoline is burned the more power extracted from the gasoline. A stronger or “better spark” will cause the gasoline to burn faster.

Incorrect. The speed at which gasoline burns has nothing to do with creating more power in an engine. A better spark won’t cause the gasoline to burn faster anyways.

Unless you’ve heavily modified your engine to run at higher RPM, like 10,000r or greater, you will not notice any benefit from performance coil packs.
I explained it in an earlier post, but there is absolutely no reason to waste money on coil packs claiming to increase performance

    This is incorrect.

Power is extracted from when the gasoline is burned. (Timing)

OK OK I will be the guinea pig. If everyone sends me a few bucks each to buy these I will try them out for you. But I will not go and put 91 in the tank.

Maybe someone could remote mount these and run some Nology Hotwires off them to the plugs. That should get at least another 50hp to the wheels.

*Sigh* I'll be that guy. Yes, I have the Ripp coil packs, right off the bat I'll say It's not worth it. Whenever you do anything to your vehicle such as CAI, TB spacer, whatever, you automatically have a placebo effect and think it made a difference. Hence the Ripp coil packs, at first I noticed how much more responsive it was. Didn't really notice a "power gain", and over a short amount of time I was saying to myself, "it feels like the same old truck. The truck runs fine today, probably have over 20,000 mi on those coil packs and I do have the OV Tune. If your wallet and heart still want to try the coil packs I say go for it. Your experiences may differ from mine. Everyones tacoma seems to respond differently to different mods when it comes to lift, brand, electronics, engine mod, etc.
