If it’s cracked I wouldn’t ride it. Hopefully warranty will cover it. Id contract the company. They maybe be able to get you a rear triangle.

like stated, have a local shop look at it. General rule of thumb is anything cracked or broken, don’t ride it. Not worth the pain you’ll feel when it breaks while you’re going Mach chicken down a descent.

by the color it’s one of the original new chameleons. They had issues with the dropouts on the earlier frames. Bring it to A Santa Cruz dealer and they’ll probably swap it out for you at no cost. Might want to think about what color you want your replacement to be.

I saw an old post online about the issue. I dont think Santa Cruz will honor the warranty since im not the original owner. Im still going to bring it in the see what my situation will be. Thanks for the advice.

    In order of preference:
    1. Bottle Holder
    2. Ride with one hand, drink with the other
    3. Hip Pack
    4. Electrical tape on the frame
    5. Backpack (For heckling days)

The Latch-It Rack has been a game changer for Tacomas. Allows over an extra foot of cargo space in the bed while still hauling five bikes

You never know until you ask. Typically companies will at least honor a crash replacement and it is much cheaper than new.

Alternatively, if you know the previous owner they could call on your behalf. I have had good luck with this

    Hello!

I recently did over 800 miles of round trip to Vermont and back to Philly over july 4th weekend. I have Dakine Trunk pad for the bike holder. I notice my bike does move little when I am driving. Did you add anything to hold the bike down during long trip? When I was doing 9N along by Lake George in New York, the bike was moving around.

I am trying to figure out how to hold the bike tight during long trip.

I did the Kingdom Trails in North East Kingdom in Vermont. So much fun! Will go back!

    here’s the pictures!

Gonna see what the local Santa Cruz shop will say. I found the bike on Craigslist that is 3 hours away from me, so asking the original owner is not possible. At the least i hope that the bike is rideable on the roads. On inspection it looks like the drop out would be able to at least withstand that. Its gonna be a while before i can afford a new ride.

I'd guess about 24-32 from the sound. But considering Cornelius Kapfinger is behind it, I bet it works like a hot damn for his designated purpose.

Yeah definitely sounds like it. I’m more curious about why you’d want the ratchet in the bottom bracket/crank vs the hub

I guess the idea is that you then have a locked rear hub, so the chain is always moving when the bike is moving, thus you could shift on the fly without pedaling. But I think the trade off would be more chain drag and wear on components. Seems like it would make the most sense on a DH bike.

Not a new concept, but maybe more durable than past projects like this.

Ahhh that makes sense. It actually seems like it could be useful anywhere you have a downhill followed by steep climb. I can think of spots where it would be nice to have where I usually ride. You’re probably right about the wear though, gonna go through chains like crazy.

That's the idea, can gear down at speed and be ready for the climb instead of crunching through gears like I'm sure none of us do. :anonymous:

Oh man, we have one super fun DH track around here thats built on an old moto trail. Super steepy and flowy down, come around a corner and theres a soul crushing uphill for about 100 ft that you're always on the wrong side of the cassette range for.
