Not sure why the dealer would get chewed out for something you forgot to check. And I'm normally one to hate the dealers.

I work at a dealership. There is always someone mad at you for something that has nothing to do with you . People these days and this customer is always right b.s . What happened to respect and being a decent person ?

OP just be decent and NICE . The person helping you is more likely to help you . Remind them that your maintenance is done there and it must have been a accident .

At the end of the day nobody there will give two shits about your locking lugs . There just solving a problem and don’t really care who’s fault it is .

I hope it gets taken care of . It most likely will but remember you can’t prove it was them that misplaced it . Also check your glove box , center console and below/behind your seat thoroughly ( I’m sure you already did but make sure).

I feel for you. It is as if the whole country has gone crazy or something. In all of my years I have never yelled at anyone in a dealership. What is the point? It's like people who yell in restaurants -- who needs a booger in their soup?

But to be fair the OP said he was exaggerating ... and that it was his fault. I am just glad he posted. I had no idea and I can practically guarantee this would happen to me.

When I bought my truck in Feb 2016 one of the dealer added options was a spare tire lock.

I had the key in the glove box and tried it when I got home, it worked no problem.

Later on I was removing the spare and it wouldn’t drop.

I actually started a thread here asking about it.

It turns out the security lock fell off on the road and my security key was trying to engage the factory mechanism.

When I went back to the dealership to ask them to make it right, it was like I was speaking a different language, go figure.

Fuck it, I let it go since these guys were acting clueless.

I haven’t been back to that dealership except for the cps recall, but in all honesty I wasn’t planning on going back anyway because my first “free” oil change they only put three of the four bolts holding the skid plate back on.

I did all my own maintenance and most repair work on my last truck and it lasted 19 years. Pretty obvious the dealership doesn’t really care, despite their advertising.

The only people those silly ass keyed nuts slow down, is the owner, that for some reason cares about them. Thieves and shop techs will zip those suckers off in seconds.

    Right?

For whatever grief the OP gets in these threads sometimes, a lot of people read them and get a chance to avoid a similar problem.

I was reading a new thread this morning about mice getting into a truck and I have been staying in the country this week- my truck parked outside and not being driven...oh shit! Yeah I went out and popped my hood and started it up. The magic of TW.

And also, bring back @stun gun

I am so with you. Thanks to the OP for taking all of the snark. He even admitted he was blowing off steam, was exaggerating and recognized it was his fault. It is the pioneers like that who really help fools like me from suffering the same fate. :)

@boynoyce one thing I found that helped with keeping critters away was using a little bit of fabric with a few drops of peppermint oil zip tied somewhere under the hood...

I will try that out next time I am out here- a little inexpensive peace of mind for sure.
