my general rule is you show somebody a special place dont just tell them about it unless it is a close friend and never ever post location on the internet. clues are ok but specifics are not cool. people need to work for their adventures not just follow somebody else's.

I did transfer trail and the surrounding area a couple weeks ago. This time of year its a mud hole. The amount of sxs making their own bypasses because of the mud made me livid.

I don't have the personality (or testicular fortitude) to reprimand strangers. I have stolen the trick someone here showed of just taking pictures of people behaving badly to shame them into good behavior. It bothers me that people are willfully destroying land and we may lose access if it continues, and I hate that it's turned me into a "You got high now go home" style Colorado gatekeeper.

I've started to bring a leaf rake with me to clear dispersed campsites and every weekend I end up hauling out at least one garbage bag full of broken glass, tin cans and random trash. And don't get me started on the shooting areas. The Gold Camp shooting area looks like a post apocalyptic wasteland.

It's absurd. I was there a week ago and I couldn't believe it. I thought Turkey Track was bad but I think Gold Camp takes the cake for shit humans

Turkey Track has the burn scar background that really adds to the ambiance along with the spent brass and shot up propane canisters.

Colorado is definitely getting super crowded population wise. That combined with the fact that a lot of people are out of work, so they have a bunch of free time and are looking for inexpensive things to do, I think the trails and campsites are gonna be even more over run this summer. Plus with this whole “work from home” trend more people will probably decide they should up and move here from who knows where. And yeah the internet is great and all but nothing is sacred anymore and kooks are everywhere.

I've seen a bunch of people asking about short term rentals on other sites. They want to come for a few months while working remotely. Yea, gonna be a ton of people here

Yeah and to escape their Covid infested, hot AF states (I’m lookin at you Texas, Arizona, Florida). All the river put ins are blown out as well.
Now that you mention it, another thing the internet did with unintended consequences. Created Air BnB and VRBO. Completely decimating affordable long term housing, creating over tourism, displacing locals, having adverse effects on hotel industry.

I agree with this and the ensuing conversation, but I also absolutely hate it. My wife and I have done quite a bit of traveling in the 16 yrs we've been married and Colorado is probably my favorite spot on earth (so far). I grew up out side of Charlotte NC and it was a podunk town in the 70s, 80s, and into the 90s. But now, when I go back to visit, it's unrecognizable, the Hawaiian islands have been overrun for years now. And the thought of a state like CO turning into new New York or some such is abominable, and yet many people, myself included, will without a doubt move there at the first reasonable opportunity. It's sad, but i guess this is what people call progress. Enjoy it while you can.

One of my absolute favorite passes.

Webster still has a fair amount of snow blocking the switchbacks to handcart gulch. Radical is impassable due to snow in the switchbacks.

It's in that book. The gatekeeper would present a challenge for stock vehicles. Recommend sliders and skids, and leave all your fucks at home about smacking your factory rear bumper.

went up there on the 4th... you had much better weather.. the obstacle wet was a real bitch! the rock on the passenger side tried to take out 2 of the group's pass rear tires..

this was one of the jeep trying to get up it.. no lockers so it had the most trouble.

Wet def compounds that obstacle. Under dry conditions you have a lot to worry about even with tires staying where you want them. If not for that, I think a stock vehicle could get through the rest. Theres that one hill climb with some big boulders where it splits left and right that has some challenge, but that's not too terrible to navigate.

My biggest struggle lately is that flippac camper. That thing is wide as hell at the top be going down these narrow ass trails.

@CG256 Did you take the time to cleanup the brass & canisters? if not, shame on you, cause that's what it takes to make it better.
