    Haven't. But want to.

As for crab patterns, I use them salt water fishing for Permit. Now, if I could just get one of those fishies to take the fly. So far no luck. It isn't the fly, it's my casting ability, or lack thereof. :(

I've heard they are also picky about the leader/tippet. Any kink or bend is enough to cause them to refuse.

Why I use fluorocarbon. The leader gets beat up being stripped across sand. I change when I notice any irregularities.

Hope you guys all had a good 4th of July weekend and made it out fishing. I got out to one of my favorite middle of nowhere spots. No big fish, but there's never anyone there, even on a holiday weekend.

Spent some time in a similar spot. 10500'. Mostly brookies in the 8-14" class with the occasional football. No photo's of the fish because no footballs this trip. Plus I was cheating and using my mini-jig set-up. lol

I got a gorgeous brookie last night on the sunset hatch, about 6" with full color.

That fish finished my trifecta for the last week at the same spot on the Farmington River in CT. (30 min drive from me) 3 nights out this last week.

I just found this thread and love looking at the pics. I just started fly fishing last fall, but have had a pretty productive year so far this year. I think I'm up to a dozen or so bass, 0<x<100 bluegill, a crappie, and several pretty nice sticks. The first time I hooked into a couple pound bass on a fly, I was sold. It's too much fun fighting them. I bass fish with conventional rod/reel out of my kayak and its so different being able to just muscle a bass into the boat than having them on a fly rod at full bend.

I haven't gotten a chance to get a trout yet, and am really pining for that first rainbow- I think they're gorgeous fish. We have a few places around that allegedly have them, but no luck for me yet. I know theyre there, because I *unwittingly* have walked upstream behind them and almost stepped on a couple of them, which makes for quite a shock when they take off lol. I think I need to develop my river fishing technique more.

Have any of you guys tried postfly? I tried it just to see what it was about and my first box was pretty good; 10 decent sized flies that would easily be $2-5 at bass pro/cabelas (I got the warm water box, so lots of big craw and baitfish patterns for bass), some tapered leader, and a gaiter this month. I'm skeptical that some of these subscription boxes really load up the first one to 'convince' you that it's worth it and keep you subscribed- if anyone has gotten multiple boxes does the value per box stay the same, in your opinion?

I'll get some pics up in here later- the first fish I ever caught on a fly was the most picture perfect bluegill I've ever seen in my life, so vivid.

I've had postfly for a while. I think it's a good value, and I don't think they loaded up the first box.

I justify it for the flies alone. Getting 2 dozen flys alone makes it worth it compared to buying in store. However I will say, after a while I've ended up with a bunch of patterns that I don't, or at least haven't, used. I think now that my fly boxes are pretty well stocked, I'll cancel it and stick to buying, or learn to tie, the 10 or so patterns I use the most regularly.

I have a lot of luck with rainbows using black and purple toned flies. A Prince Nymph with purple wings, a smaller chubby Chernobyl in black and purple (black body and purple legs), purple haze, you get the picture. Lively legz are also really effective.
I have been tying for about 2 months now. It is challenging and fun. It's been too warm to try out the trout flies I've tied but I've got some panfish and bass flies lined up for the weekend after next.

Anyone use a float tube? I bought one a couple of years ago to use on my friends lake front house. I haven't used it for a while and have thought about breaking it out again. Im in Central Connecticut so a lot of lakes are electric/no motor anyways.
