Help picking new tires ...

All really great advice here ! Thank you ! I will read through all of these and refine my list from 5 to 3. Hadn't considered the K02s but may need to reconsider. Super insight ... honestly this is more helpful insight than the two tire shops I visited. . You guys should be on commission.

 

I had 275/70/17 K02's on TRD Pro wheels for about a month before I finally got my lift installed. I know there have been some disagreements about whether those will rub or not but I can honestly say I had ZERO rubbing for that month. And I did put some dirt on the truck a few times but nothing that really worked the suspension over.

I guess what I am saying is to not worry about rubbing issues if you want to go bigger, although I really think the offset of the Pro wheels makes a big difference, 275's just don't balloon like 285's so I never worried that I'd rub the UCA's and if I had any rubbing at all it would be against pliable plastic that I could massage to make it clear.

Anyway, everyone has different tastes when it comes to tires but my second choice was the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W's.

 

Here are some pics of my KO2’s mounted. However, keep in mind, I’m running a modest lift. They’ve been great so far. My wife and I took a 120 mile round trip the other day and, according to the dash readout, I averaged around 21 mpg both ways.

 

Those tires -- and the truck -- look great. My new truck is a TRD OR in the same gray. Your truck looks really sharp. I wasn't considering the KO2s but will look carefully at them when I re-do my list based on all of the feedback here. Thank you !

 

I got some 265/75 r16 Wildpeaks (SL) a couple weeks ago. Not only improved the looks but the ride as well (over the stock goodyears). Mounted them on the stock rims and I would NOT go smaller. Also seems to have raised the stock suspension a touch....

Found them on an obscure website (general search) for $121.00 and discount tire matched!

Also...no more noise than stocks...

 

They look really good -- and for that price you can't go wrong. I have a buddy who wants to buy the ones on my new truck for $100 a piece so for only $80 bucks or so I will get to upgrade the whole truck. I am narrowing my list and the will likely be in the top three. Appreciate the photos -- they really help.

 

+1 for the Falkens, got 46k on my first set and could see getting 50k+ easily.

 

I sold my stocks (w/ 500 miles on them) in about 5 minutes on craigslist for $300 which cut the total price of new tires mounted in half.

 

Here is a photo of the K02 275's on a 2+ inch 6112 lift if it helps any.

 

The Coopers don't look quite as good, but they perform just as well as the wildpeaks. My two favorite all terrains without a doubt.

 

I went with Atturo trail blade MT on the recommendations of a few friends. 265/75r16 fit perfectly no lift factory TRD offroad suspension. They work great howl a little but not bad. I got 4 for $521. 6ply load range E.

 

If you're in the north you'll appreciate the winter rating on the Falken's also. Great tire.

Youwant 265/75/16's. They are enough bigger to look better with no real downsides.

I like an E rated tire because I've ruined too many lesser tires driving on rough roads, not necessarily off road. The E rated tires end up being cheaper in the long run since I don't have to replace damaged tires before they wear out. Ride is fine once you get the air pressure figured out. But if you don't spend any time on rough rocky and rutted roads or off road a P series is plenty for a Tacoma.

The brand is personal. I don't own any, but I've read too many positive reports and know too many others with Falkens. They are well regarded. I was torn between Falken, or just biting the bullet and buying BFG's in November for my F150. Ended up seeing these and went with the new Pirelli tire. Not a lot of people using this tire yet, but I liked it better than BFG, and ended up being within $50 for the set compared to Falken.

I would give those Mickey Thompsons a look see. I love the Wildpeaks and the Toyos also look great.
