Bilstein 6112

I don’t have much experience with lifts as this is my first ever. But I can say I like the way it drives and since the leafs are progressive I think they’re pretty nice for pavement pounding haha. I would just go Expedition springs and not kick yourself if you ever decide to add more weight like a fridge or a hc bumper.

 

I have the stage 4 kit from runnin4tacos installed and also have SPC UPCs installed.
Stock Off road rims 16”....

Spidertrax 1.25” wheel spacers were also bought but not installed just yet..

Would anyone know if 285/75/16 would fit?? I wouldn’t want to trim or CMC but I have a feeling it might need to be done. Originally was going to get and still may get 265/75/16 but would hate to get that and regret not going bigger.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on 6112/5160, and wanting to confirm before deciding to stay with my 265 or biting the bullet and bumping up 285. Assuming coils are the same, would ride get stiffer at 5/6 setting compared to 2/3?

 

I dont have my 6112's yet, so i dont know for sure. But the higher you have the clips the more you are compressing the spring (preload) and this should technically cause it to ride rougher. Whether or not you can feel the difference, I do not know.

Those offset settings are usually for the 3rd gens. I have mine set on the 4th setting with a 1/4" tophat spacer on the driverside and have 265's but I am moving up to 285 this month. The 2nd gen 6112's only have 5 settings and the 3rd gen ones have 6. With 285's, you will need a CMC and fold your pinch welds. I have mine with the 650lb bilstein coils because I have a streamline bumper and full skid trio. If you have 265's on your truck now, buy the lift and get it installed first, then see what settings you like depending upon your weight in your truck i.e. armor, winch etc. Then see what it might take to upgrade to 285's.

 

Someone on here posted a $20 off lifetime alignment from firestone but I couldn’t find it. I just set an appointment to have it done and was going to buy the lifetime alignment but the guy on the phone informed me that modified Tacoma‘s are not eligible for lifetime alignment. Anyone have experience with this? Maybe my fault for saying that I was lifting my truck?

 

Id start tactically integrating him and ask what does modified mean. I mean adding a MESO cup holder and modified. I think they just don't want to give you the $20 off.

 

Yeah, I know people who use them around here with lifted vehicles and they have the lifetime alignment.

 

Thanks man I appreciate that. I called two other Firestones, I think the first guy just didn’t know what he was talking about. I’m getting my truck lifted this weekend about an hour away from me so the guy suggested I come into my local firestone and buy the service and then just show up to the firestone near my install site and just show them that I have paid for the lifetime service.

 

haha pay for it while it's not "modified", get it modified and then get it aligned.

 

Lol, Made sure that if I did go this route that I wouldn’t show up and void my lifetime alignment purchase after the Bilstein install, he seemed sure of it. I’ll pick their brain more when I go in later today.

 

Okay, I got most of my parts in...question on these though.

The three top nuts on the front shocks all look like this...every one of them. This seems wrong to me, but should the thread be punched down on these like this?? I can't hand tighten them down at all.

 

I have never seen them like this. Those didn't come with mine. I would replace them with the grade 8 equivalent at HD. Just my 2 cents.

Those are self-locking nuts. Once you get a few threads on it is engaged and from there you will have to use a wrench or socket....unless you're the hulk. haha

 

I've never seen a locking nut like that - it's a flange nut with the serrations on the bottom. The only locking nuts I've ever worked with are the ones that have a nylon insert. These look like they would mess up the thread on the bolt =/

 

This is quite common in suspension areas as nylon may be affected by heat, UV and other debris/oil. Also nylon wears out quickly with just a few uses, where as a mechanical locking nut such as these can be used several time. The rule of thumb on a nut like this is - if you can thread it on fully by hand it requires replacement. No damage will be done to the threads as long as it threads on smooth the first couple threads.
