Is rust proofing still a worthwhile application on a used vehicle? My recently acquired '17 is showing a bit of rust underneath. Despite being originally from New England and in Ohio for 30 years, I've never considered getting a car rust proofed, until now.

Absolutely. Limit that rust from getting any worse. I would recommend trying to wire brush all previous rust and blast with some black rustoleum first. Then going with a undercoating of some sort. All depends on how long you plan on keeping the vehicle.

I would prefer to just coat the frame as is. the rustoleum wont allow it to penetrate as well.

I had my 2005 done by this guy who was in NY but is now in CT. Yes, it is a drive but it doesn't take that long to do. I drove there, dropped off my truck, he drove me to the small town and I had lunch while he did it. Might be worth it:

Notice the products he uses -- one is Fluid Film but the other two I have not heard of. I think one is a commercial rust application which was put on my truck. Price was not bad, either.

If this is not an option I would go with Krowne ... when it comes to anything cold weather trust our friends and family in the Great White North.
