I was wondering when you were going to post a separate review on this. First need to pull the trigger on that head unit then doing this. Thanks for sharing!

I do have a question. The DVR option,is that an app on the head unit or is it a built in feature with the hardware that comes with the system?
Also, did it actually take you 2 days? lol if so, I might do both the head unit and the cameras all at once. That way I know what my 4 day thanksgiving weekend is going to look like.

It is built in in the bird view system. The installation took me like 3 evenings to complete. I usually arrive after 7:00 pm from the daily routine. So yes, if you have the time and maybe some help maybe in half day you should be up and running. The hardest part are the side mirrors. Front camera is really easy and the rear if you got the time you can wire it to the oem plug.

Sweet. This set up always reminds me of the Tesla sentry mode. I wonder if there's a way to make it work similar to it. Thanks for the info!

Well @SamOfSteel, you can wire the system to be always recording. That is the closest you can get, I think.

Maybe..., if you have a head unit with cellular service something like this may do the trick.

For those with roof racks, instead of putting cameras in the mirrors, what about on the rack? Don't need to see directly down to still be helpful, or is the angle too much? Also for forward and back (probably the weak spot to this idea)

Looks awesome! Thanks for sharing this! I'm looking to do the same thing and was curious how you wired everything to the head unit and which wires you tapped.

Started the installation today. I already know the touchscreen feature does not work with the Intel cpu. Will continue tomorrow.

Between rain and work, progress has been slow. I was planning to reuse the existing cables but they are not compatible. I am currently rerouting all the new ones. Old cable at the left.

A little background info: The new bird view system is AHD(Analog High Def). That translate into a more clear image on the head-unit(android). You could see the difference mainly on the menus(more sharp/readable). The unit was advertised to be compatible with touchscreen support. That is true only if you have an arm based head-unit with a infrared pin on it, mine is Intel so no support. Also they sell a trajectory box that connect to the obd2 port and send the info to the bird view system. I bought it to test unfortunately did not work(they never made a representation it will).

I haven't had the chance to calibrate the 360 function yet but the image quality and responsiveness is far superior than the previous(cheap) system. The response to the remote control is instantaneous. Since I had to disassemble the tailgate finally installed the PopLock and added another camera facing the bed.

    Bird view -Not calibrated yet!:

Finally the touch screen option is working. I swapped the head unit for a newer unit and noticed on the pinout it contained the IR pin. Tested and boom! See attached video.

    https://youtu.be/f24OGeOhDjQ

-The new head unit has the cameras option built-in. Not shown here.

@562uned :This is the head unit(..I sell them). There are many similar on the market. This is the link on Ali Express for the bird view system. Feel free to ask, I've dealing with these systems for a while and don't mind to share info.
