2003 double cab 4x4 212k for $7500?

Hey y'all!
Looking to get some advice on a truck I'm looking to buy.
its 2003 double cab 4x4
212k
Asking 8500 but got him down to 7500
I'll post a picture of their description.
It has had rust but the guy has wire brushed the frame and patched it back up.
Also the ebrake doesn't work, needs an o2 sensor and the sqeeels when the ac come on.

What do you think is this worth it?

lot of corrosion on the motor itself, i can see the brake lines, and cables being messed up

 

That's a good deal for 7,500. I would buy it in a heartbeat if its in as good of condition as the description says.

 

I don't have any pics of the frame other than what I posted.
How much do you think o2 sensor, fixing the squeeling and ebrake would be to fix?

 

Would this maybe lead to the ebrake not working?

Rust is an issue in snow states

You really need to confirm it youself, or get some very detailed pics of lots of areas of the frame: FR and RR attachment points for the rear springs; long sections under the cab (both sides); and the rear of the front wheel openings/torsion bar bushing attachment points.

That rear section of the wheel opening, the frame gets pounded by rocks picked up by the tire when turning on gravel roads. Aggressive tread tires of course make it more likely to occur. Paint and ED coat don't stand a chance, and rust begins.

Paint may look good until hit with hammer which is how you test frames for rust

 

Do some research on tacoma frame rust, and the extent of potential damage.

Then ask yourself if simply using a wire brush and painting is "enough"...

According to Toyota, "too much" rust was something like a dime sized hole in the frame.

When you go to look at it, take a hammer with you. Tap around on the frame and listen for a change in the sound. It should be a nice bright "tink" sound. If you get to spots where it's more of a dull thud, that means you have frame cancer, and should likely walk away.

These frames, for the most part, rust from the INSIDE out. If all the seller did was take a wire brush to parts, you can guarantee he didn't do anything inside the frame.

Those frame patches pictured aren't going to do squat. You might as well just put some tape over them. I would be highly suspicious.

 

thanks I'll try to get more pictures. Other wise going to look at it tomorrow. It's 4 hours away so kinda a trek.

what do you think of the patches area by the rear wheels?

 

That's what we're planning on doing with the hammer.
We are going to be taking it out to Oregon. So it kinda feels like shooting ourselves in the foot with the rust. but 4 door tacos are like 10k out here.

 

35's huh? body lift?

 

There are frame caps made specifically for Tacomas.
The passenger side patch is a hack job on a critical area thar supports shock absorber. Patch just covers hole.
Here's a pic of same shock mount from back of frame with no rust through showing from outside of frame.

 

35s? Weighed down? Shade tree patches on the frame? Salty climate?

I wouldn't touch this thing at any price

 

I would like to know how hes running 35s. when i bought mine the dude had a 3" body lift just to fit them before i removed both. also those springs are shot

I would wait for a better taco with lower miles and less rust for that kind of money

 

Judging by the clearance between the bed and frame, the most it could have is a 1" body lift since the bed and body seems to be properly aligned (ruling out a cab only lift)

 

The amount of rust on the steel bolts etc. under the hood raise a red flag for me. The frame seems to show well at first glance, but a frame that nice won't have those mickey mouse patches in the passenger rear wheel well. I'd be pretty worried.
