I'll throw in my 2 cents worth...many (many) years ago I worked in a performance parts shop that specialized in the usual fare...headers, cams, manifolds, etc. We had a regular customer that talked about his tests with all the popular oils mentioned in this thread. He supervised the 4 ball wear test and verified the results. Because of his findings, he switched to Amsoil. That's what I use. Yea it's harder to find, but I always connect with somebody that sells it no matter where I live. East coast, West coast, in between, no problem getting oil.

I bought my '06 Access 4x4 brand new. I drained the original oil after 1000 miles, ran non-synthetic another 6K to be absolutely sure the rings were seated, then switched over to Amsoil 0-w30. My beauty has 59,000 miles now and runs/pulls like a AA top fueler.

Most mechanics will agree that it's common and acceptable to use and therefore add a quart of oil between changes. My oil level doesn't move 1 mm, even after 6K. I get excellent oil mileage. Is that because of synthetic oil? It can't hurt!

Just put it in.. so no improvement yet.. but have used Amsoil for the past 5 yrs. in all my Toyota's. I like the fact you can go 25,000 miles or 1 yr. between oil changes.. I do change out the filter after 6 months.

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
Hey Hot Sace, a good looking truck, it looks lowered a little or is not a 4 wheel drive?

To answer your second question first: absolutely no. The law is pretty clear on this: if a manufacturer requires you to use something that only they sell to maintain warranty, they must furnish it. You may use Toyota Genuine or equivalent! Just look for grade and SAE certification labels per the manual.

Now for the first question: yes, you could void warranty if you extend drain intervals. But only for a related failure shown to be caused by the deviation: they could NOT void warranty for a broken differential because you extend engine oil drain interval, for instance.

So that means you'd have to have a claim for engine failure/damage due to inadequate lubrication. Engine design and materials have advanced so much, and oils are so good (even petroleum oils), these types of failures are virtually non-existent in the first 60K miles. It's a gamble, but the odds are very much in your favor. Just do it advisedly.

Ha ha and "Engine getting nosier when oil wears out" I knew that, that does happen when you running too thin grade or some really crappy oil. That sound is a wear on engine

LOL thanks for nothing I guess

    Yeah...thanks for nothing...

But did you honestly expect any different? Toyota's no different from any other huge company: the left doesn't know what the right is doing so in the end they just default to a standard drivel response guaranteed to pass responsibility to someone else (in this case, the technical review team for the owner's manual).

If the author of your e-mail was going to offer anything novel, it would have to be submitted to technical review at great expense. And legal would want to have it documented and peer audited since it could be cited in congressional hearings. In times past, that would be exaggeration...but BP and Toyota know otherwise.

    As well as Roger Clemens.

In my ricer (saturn Ion redline) I run mobil from day 1 (as it was a requirement to keep warrenty) then I switched to royal purple, i am liking it, it is better at disapating heat which is especially important when you are running blowers with pulleys that are to small on track days that are too hot lol, Mobil 1 (according to the research I have done) has better cleaning agents then any of them, royal purple disapates heat better. I dont know of many people that have been very happy with castrol, but I havent tried it myself, I personally think Mobil is the way to go

My father works for NAPA, and while he stands behind their oil, he's always used just a regular non-synthetic oil in ALL of his vehicles. Never has had a problem.

I have always used Mobile 1 due to probably the million commercials I've seen since I started driving years ago, and due to it's convienience of finding.

But, I just thought I'd point out... Valvoline Synthetic is the ONLY oil that offers a 300K mile guarantee. Stating that if something happens to you engine that was caused by the oil, they will replace it. Not too shabby!

These days, I think technology has come so far that all the companies probably have almost identical products, it's just a name you're paying for.
