Enough Already! Your Truck's T, HP and RPM Explained

OVT, MT and regear. Truck was OK before. Now it's perfect, and still R isn't low enough, so install the 2WD Low switch. Truck is awesomely perfect.

There are plenty of cars/trucks people tune/perfect. Let it be.

Lol when I wrote it i had a Tacoma then! However, the premise of my article is valid for all vehicles. I should do one for a Tundra.

 

Im sure the 3.5 performs better with the tune. Im just still not sure how it will affect longevity of the drivetrain.

The guy speaking about his '16 M/T wasn't wrong though. I had one with a very early calibration (04B10) and it was a bear to drive at times. Toyota must have gotten the message, because their smart guys came out with an update almost 2 yrs later (04B13). Much much better.
Your 18 probably had all the enhancements/lessons learned
included in the factory calibration for that M/Y, although it had a different name (04A70 or 04A71).
So, my point is they could have done better when the 3rd gen was first released. I doubt the later calibrations got worse gas mileage or polluted more. I also doubt they reduced QDR or the service life of the engine.

Luckily my 18 drove great straight from the factory. Still, my biggest complain is lack of pedal response in neutral, but its not a huge deal,i learned to mash the pedal to rev match.

I had 1 ecu update done recently and it seemed to add a bit of low end and just better overall driving experience.

Im glad i didnt get to experience the early calibrations.

 

The "mashing the pedal" thing was much worse on my 16 than it was on my '19 running stock calibration. I hear you though, even tuned I still occasionally get a pass from the engine when I blip the throttle. There may be more help coming though, as Mat has tracked down the tables related to "clutch in" airflow and whatnot. He was testing a file just the other day

 

Um, no. Needed a bigger trailer to tow a bigger tractor and test equipment. More than 6K, less than 10K.

 

The same engine runs at 6900RPM and 310hp across multiple platforms. I think it will be okay.

 

Thats with the toyota tune right, not OV.

I honestly know fuck all about the tuning, so who am i to say. But i still trust toyota engineers more than OV. I might be completely wrong though.

 

Generally you are not wrong. OE guys have a lot more resources than aftermarket guys. With OV, Mat knows his stuff, in a limited fashion, as well as the OE guys.
