'87 Dodge Lancer, right around 100 hp. Would never run it over 3000rpm cause it sounded like it was going to explode. Couldn't get out of its own way. So glad my tacoma was built out of parts that actually fit together!

Almost forgot the 1990 oldsmobile cutlass sierra my mom had when I was a kid. three engines in less than 18 months. After the third engine they thought they had it figured out that the transmission was slightly out of round causing vibration or something on the crankshaft. At that point my parents pulled out the Lemon Law and they got a 1992 Oldsmobile to replace it. My sister drove that car til after she bought the Raptor. Had over 200K miles on it, ran like a champ. Though the brakes were getting kinda iffy. Donated it to some Veterans Charity that auctioned it off. Sold for over $2000 when it was over 20 years old!

We generally buy cars for the long haul (planned ownership decade+), so reliability is paramount. Haven't had any lemons, but gotta say the GM ones were the worst.

We had a '99 GMC Safari that ate its transmission for lunch at 20K. Turned me off of GM forever.

I drove a '99 Volvo S70, the powertrain was bulletproof, but everything else just disintegrated around it, and it ate up brakes like crazy, with proprietary (and of course, expensive) brake pads.

We've had Toyota and Mazda for the past decade, and have had nowhere NEAR the issues as with the domestics/euros we had in the previous decades.

Ive had multiple entry level GMs as a young kid. Cavaliers and Cobalts. The good was they were cheap and easy to fix, something I got to do a lot of. No one can convince me now to trust GM though. Every one of them had the same issues. Valve cover gaskets failing at ~80-100k. Multiple and seemingly never ending o2 sensors after 80k, failed and broken flex pipes on the exhaust. Knock sensor failures. Thermostat failures every 50k. CV boots would disintegrate and leak after 60k. Basically you could address the major items to keep it on the road but never get caught up because they all seemed to get in to a cyclical failure cycle where parts would wear out prematurely and just as soon as it was fixed the next thing would go.

Ford Contour. The only car i ever owned the mechanic didn't charge me to look at. Nice guy. He told me my car wasn't worth fixing and I needed to be finding something different. That's when i found my first Tacoma and have owned one every since.

What a great idea for a thread, Charlie, this should be entertaining!

Here's a shot of the most nightmarish, poorly designed, way-too-many-gadgets interior ever (sorta) designed.

Behold, the 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix. You better own a shop or you'll never see it!

2007 Jeep Compass. It was the biggest piece of shit I have ever driven. Transmission issues, radiator & air condenser blew at 80k miles, had to replace wheel bearings & control arms before 80k, and it was extremely under powered. Keep in mind I did all of the recommended maintenance. I will never buy anything other than a Toyota for the rest of my life. My 13' Tacoma and 15' 4Runner have been rock solid reliable, and I have never had an issue with either one.

Fiat Chrysler can kiss my ass.

Not mine but a pretty blonde had a Monza. I hate those carbs to this day. But the backseat was worth it.

I had a 2005 Subaru Legacy Wagon GT. Loved the car, but it was very far from reliable and turned out to be a real lemon. Sold it at a loss and decided only naturally aspirated for me unless it’s a diesel.

Tough one to decide... guess I'll go with the 1995 GMC Jimmy, the worst of my 4 worst (runners up are 1978 Dodge Van, 1974 Ford Econoline, and 1964 Ford Econoline).
