I am still planning a lot of the route, hence the dry run. I can say that I wasn't aware of that trail, but I do see a bunch of stuff in that area that looks worth exploring and possibly putting on the trip. Thanks for the heads-up.

It's a nice stock-ish friendly trail, bumpy, rocky, some mud, no real obstacles, though. The lake is nice. Four Wheeler Magazine drove it, and had an article about it, back in the very late 80's. Plenty of local videos on YouTube.

Looks like someone asked you to take down the specifics you'd posted about that trail (understandable, hopefully they explained why), but if you want to PM me with any details, GPS tracks, etc, I'm open to suggestions.

I took them down, even though the trail is well known and legal, thought you may want some privacy concerning the route.

I'll have to run that by the wife and see if she would be interested in that. We were going to go to San Diego 8/10-8/19 but that just got canceled this morning. I already took 8/10-8/21 off from work so I can always move a week around and make that work.

Is the trail still “legal”. It’s not a class 4 road and doesn’t show up on the MVUM for the national forest. Always wondered what the status was. I’ve been on it in the past and know it’s well traveled.

It hasn't been on the maps in ages, unsure why. Everyone uses it, but only ATVs are ticketed. I'll ask a few friends what the status is so it can be confirmed.

Now I remember, it is shown on the older maps as the Long Trail/AT. The original Long Trail followed an old stage coach Rd, from County Rd in Stamford, to Woodford and Bennington. If you look at some of the older VT Trans maps, the Sucker Pond trail is shown as the Long Trail. In the 1980's, the trail was moved east, up onto the ridge. Thus, it disappeared off the maps.

I'll probably have one of my dogs with me. As long as yours is sociable it shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, I'm thinking 3-4 of us should be good, enough to keep it nimble but still get out of any issues we may run into.

I see a bunch of stuff in that area for both roads and the LT/AT when I look at the area in Gaia GPS. I haven't gone to compare it to the official VTrans/NFS maps yet, but I'll try to get that done today.

Any idea of a rough time frame for the actual trip? I'm interested but 8/24 time frame i'm busy.

Not too sure yet, if it happens this year, I'll probably do it toward the end of September (9/24-9/27, since I've got that whole week off right now).

Interested in some day trips. Need to start building a network of places I can reach for a few hours.

NH is gonna be your best bet. Join Exploring New Hampshire, or just get a Delorme atlas for NH and locate the Class VI roads.

We drove some fun stuff in the area between Keene, Claremont, and Goffstown last summer. That wouldn't be too far from you.

Ran it by the wife yesterday and sounds like she'd be a go for it and interested in going as well. Her first question, are there going to be other females or just her? LOL
